Daredevil has never had it easy. Whatever glints of happiness he may receive are always fleeting and never last. After a long history of dead girlfriends, public abuse, a ruined personal life and a prison stint, Matt Murdock does not have much to smile about. With "To the Devil His Due" from Ed Brubaker and Michael Lark, things still aren't looking up for the Man Without Fear. That only makes him more angry, which is not good for the criminals of Hell's Kitchen.
And lately, Matt Murdock has had an especially rough time. After being outed in the press and locked up in Ryker's, Matt learned that his friend and law partner Franklin "Foggy" Nelson had been killed. Distraught and on the rampage, Matt escaped prison with a little help from the Punisher. On the trail to finding Foggy's killer, Matt found himself wrapped up in a less than favorable situation with Vanessa Fisk, wife of his arch-nemesis the Kingpin. Due to Vanessa's meddling, Matt returned to Hell's Kitchen a free man, relieved that Foggy turned up alive, but distrusted by the press and public.
Unfortunately, the Kitchen isn't the same as Matt remembers it. As Daredevil, he had fought so hard for so long to keep it safe and to purge the Kingpin and all other threats out of its streets. However in his absence it has gotten worse than ever. No stranger to hard work, Matt put the horns back on and got down to business. But something feels…wrong. Despite Iron Fist looking after the neighborhood while Matt was in the clink, Hell's Kitchen has fallen into a hotbed of fear and violence. Without Daredevil to be afraid of, the streets were up for grabs, and apparently a mysterious new presence is trying to set up shop.
Aside from his guilt over the state of Hell's Kitchen, Matt Murdock also has a shattered personal life to put back together. Between his law practice in shambles and his relationship with Milla Donovan, he certainly has his work cut out for him. He must work to restore his public image while reclaiming the woman he loves. There is also the small task of being a superhero to worry about as well.
With a faceless evil corrupting the streets that were once his, can Daredevil rebuild his life at the same time, or is this all part of bigger plan? Find out as "To the Devil His Due" continues in DAREDEVIL #96, on sale April 25.
