Hasbro stormed this week's New York Toy Fair, unveiling a swath of Marvel collectibles and action figures slated for release in 2011, including toys for the highly anticipated films "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger."

"We’re obviously really excited about what Marvel has going on this year, and we're supporting both of these projects with full toy lines," Hasbro’s Marvel brand manager Scott George said during an interview at Hasbro’s Times Square showroom.

Standout items for the films include the 10-inch feature figures of Thor and Captain America with electronic phrases and sound effects. The Lightning Power Thor figure in particular bore a striking likeness to actor Chris Hemsworth (see Hemsworth and Captain America actor Chris Evans visiting the showroom here).

And for the kid in all of us, Hasbro continues to produce great roleplay items such as the Captain America Disc Launching Shield--which comes with five foam discs--and Thor’s Lightning Hammer with lights, sounds and a launching projectile. The toys for Thor--which hits theaters on May 6, 2011--will be released in March, while Captain America collectibles will be on store shelves beginning in May, well before the film's July 22, 2011 theatrical release.

Fans can also expect a wide assortment of 3.75-inch and 6-inch action figures, vehicles, role-play hero items and other playthings for the films, as well as for Iron Man, Spider-Man and the Marvel Universe. There are no plans for an "X-Men: First Class"-specific toyline, though there will be comic two-packs--Cyclops/Jean Grey and Wolverine/Sabertooth--to celebrate the upcoming flick, in theaters in June.

One of the biggest toys of the event--literally--was the 16-inch Marvel Universe Masterworks Sentinel figure, which comes with electronic sounds and a 3.75-inch Wolverine. It’s available this Fall for $49.99, but look for more news about this mammoth toy soon!

"We put out the largest-ever Hasbro-carded action figure last year with Galactus," George said. "This year we’re putting the Sentinel out on that same size card so that collectors can book-end their Galactus with two Sentinels."

But perhaps the most exciting news is the return of the Marvel Legends line in 2012. Available at San Diego Comic-Con this year is Modern Age Thor debuting as Legends #0 with original package artwork by Simone Bianchi. Next year, we’ll get 6-inch figures of Ultimate Haweye and  Heroic Age Bucky Cap. Build-A-Figure is also returning with the first one revealed to be Terrax the Tamer. (Prototypes were shown in a slide presentation, but were not available for photos on the show floor.)

"For the last couple of years we’ve really been focusing on our Marvel Universe 3.75-inch line, and we’ve definitely still had six-inch offerings," George explained. "So we’re certainly continuing to dig deeper into the character portfolio for our 3.75-inch action figures. But what we found is that there’s just a tremendous appetite from a collector and fan standpoint for both of these scales. We're working really closely with [Marvel’s Director of Merchandising] Jesse Falcon, and we’re happy to bring the six-inch expression back to the line in 2012."

What Hasbro needs to put out is a few unknown marvel hero action figures such as Gauntlet or a Ulik figure, because the action figures that have been coming out lately suck!

How about a Hercules figure? Or maybe a Hercules and Ares comic 2-pack. I agree, to many Wolverines but none with his current blue and yellow jump suit. Love the marvel universe series and can't wait for the new Steve Rogers figure.
