Today, you met Captain America in the latest Micro-Episode of "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!" And while the animated Avengers haven't made Cap's acquaintance yet in the show, the fighting legend has a long history with the team from the comics.

One of the three most well-known members of the Avengers along with Iron Man and Thor, Captain America has shepherded the team through some of their darkest periods and currently leads them in the new Heroic Age spreading throughout the Marvel Universe. Take a moment with us now to look back at some of the highlights of his career with the team and check out final color and black and white lineart of Captain America from "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!"

Though not present at at the Avengers' formation, few heroes have had a larger impact on the team's history than Captain America. The group discovered Steve Rogers' frozen body in the Arctic Ocean in AVENGERS Vol. 1 #4. The Sentinel of Liberty, now a man out of time, found a new home in Avengers Mansion and a new family in his teammates.

In Cap's earliest adventures with the team, he came face-to-face with the original Baron Zemo--the man responsible for apparently killing Captain America's sidekick and leaving Cap frozen in the ocean--on a number of occasions. Zemo led the Masters of Evil, made up of some of the Avengers' fiercest foes at the time, beginning in AVENGERS Vol. 1 #6. Cap and Zemo's conflict reached its conclusion in AVENGERS Vol. 1 #15, when Zemo perished.

Immediately afterwards, the founding Avengers quit the team, leaving Cap to assemble a new group. In AVENGERS Vol. 1 #16, he brought together Hawkeye, Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch, and together the four heroes--affectionately known as "Cap's Kooky Quartet"--defeated the likes of Kang and the Mandarin.

Cap almost continuously served with the Avengers after his resurrection. In the super human Civil War, however, he came to blows with his teammate Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, over the issue of Registration. Believing that super heroes did not need to reveal their secret identities to and register with the government, Cap went underground until finally surrendering in the final conflict between the pro- and anti-Registration heroes.

Shortly after this, Steve Rogers seemingly lost his life once more in CAPTAIN AMERICA Vol. 5 #25, but instead became lost in time. After his former sidekick, Bucky, helped rescue him, he reformed the Avengers to put an end to Norman Osborn's Dark Reign. Today, Rogers stands as America's top cop, overseeing all branches of the Avengers, including his own personal squad of Secret Avengers.
