You don't earn the title of "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" without having to face a few challenges on the way, and that especially holds true for the Avengers. The team will have to prove their mettle against a bevy of baddies in the first season of "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!," and we have a preview of who you can expect to show up once the series premieres on October 20! Plus read all about each villain's history fighting the Avengers in the pages of their comics.

Loki

Thor's half-brother, the Trickster Loki first brought Earth's Mightiest Heroes together in the pages of AVENGERS Vol. 1 #1. In an attempt to set the Hulk against Thor, Loki set into motion a series of events that also brought Ant-Man, the Wasp and Iron Man into the fray, and thus the Avengers came into being. Loki would later orchestrate the Acts of Vengeance, bringing some of Avengers' worst enemies together and pitting the heroes against baddies they wouldn't normally face, hoping to throw the do-gooders off their game and finally defeat them.

Kang

The time travelling conqueror has proven himself one of the toughest foes the Avengers have ever faced. Amongst the first villains to menace the group in the pages of AVENGERS Vol. 1 #8, Kang would perpetually return to attack the group with increasingly devious and deadly threats, culminating in the epic "Kang Dynasty" storyline running from AVENGERS Vol. 3 #41-55 when he actually succeeded in living up to his name and conquered the entire Earth!

Red Skull

One of Captain America's oldest foes, the Skull resurfaced in the present day shortly after the Avengers found Cap's body in the Arctic Ocean. Since then, the Skull has remained a constant thorn in the Sentinel of Liberty's side. He's repeatedly tried to gain control of the awesome Cosmic Cube and reshape reality to his will while scheming to defeat Captain America once and for all. Most recently, a team of Avengers members helped Cap's allies bring the Red Skull down and rescue Steve Rogers after the villain sent the Star-Spangled Avenger hurtling through time.

Baron Strucker

The leader of HYDRA, Baron Strucker built the organization up to the powerhouse it is today. Strucker's ongoing feud with former S.H.I.E.L.D. commander Nick Fury began in World War II and continued to the present day when Strucker revealed himself as the true head of HYDRA the classic storyline spanning STRANGE TALES #150-158. With the powerful Satan Claw on his hand, Strucker remains physically formidable as well as being a brilliant strategist.

Grim Reaper

Eric Williams, brother of Simon Williams--a.k.a. the Avengers' Wonder Man--first became the Grim Reaper in order to reap vengeance for his brother's apparent death after Simon's first encounter with the Earth's Mightiest Heroes. In his first enocounter with the team in the pages of AVENGERS Vol. 1 #52, he managed to singlehandedly take down the Wasp, Hawkeye and Goliath before the Black Panther burst on the scene to save his fellow heroes, showing the villain's considerable might.

Enchantress & Skurge, the Executioner

The Asgardian troublemakers teamed up with the first Baron Zemo in AVENGERS Vol. 1 #7, with the Enchantress using her magic to turn Thor against his teammates. While Skurge was madly in love with the Enchantress, she merely kept him around as a diabolical assistant in her schemes against Thor and his allies. Eventually, though, the Enchantress spurned Skurge one too many times and he left her, perishing shortly thereafter as he fought alongside Thor to save the trapped souls of Niflheim in THOR #362.
