Your favorite animated Webslinger faces off with the Green Goblin for the first time in Sunday’s “Ultimate Spider-Man” one-hour special inside Marvel Universe on Disney XD, and these archrivals have a rich history in the comics.

We’ve compiled a list of five of the most memorable clashes between the Spider and the Goblin to prepare you for Sunday’s special event. What was your favorite battle between the two? Did it make the list? Read on to find out, and remember to swing into the one-hour “Ultimate Spider-Man” special event this Sunday at 11:00 a.m. ET inside Marvel Universe on Disney XD.

Spidey and his super villain archnemesis became aware of one another when Green Goblin made his first appearance in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1962) #14. During their initial encounter, Goblin had a “genius” plan in taking down Spidey.

The plan, part one: Have Spider-Man act in a movie with “fake” super villains known as the Enforcers (who weren’t actually fake--everyone but Goblin knew they were the real deal!). Part two: Have the Enforcers take the Wallcrawler aside to rehearse for the movie. Part three: Take Spider-Man down.

Clearly that didn’t work out, since the cave that Spidey ended up trapped in was actually home to the Hulk! As a result, the entire ordeal turned disastrous and the movie set had to be evacuated. What a mess!

Once again, the Green Goblin was out to get good ol’ Spidey in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN (1962) #39. In this issue, Goblin decided to get Spider-Man in the worst way possible--by revealing his secret identity to the world!

Green Goblin set his plan in motion to have Spidey fend off some hooligans inside a Macy’s, but these criminals had an extra surprise up their sleeves…stun bombs courtesy of their ringleader, the Goblin!

Spider-Man thought the stun bombs did nothing to him, but they hindered his Spidey-sense, giving the Goblin a chance to see the hero changing back into Peter Parker. Goblin then attacked Parker when he was least prepared--outside his own home!

Those morbid words say it all--the death of Gwen Stacy in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #121 shook fans to their core. This battle between Spidey and Green Goblin began as a rude exchange between Norman Osborn and Peter Parker, since Osborn hadn’t been a masked villain for quite some time. But then he cracked...

He took on the Green Goblin persona once again, and set out to make Spider-Man’s life difficult by taking Stacy hostage. Spidey went after the menace, and the two duked it out atop a bridge. When an unconscious Stacy began falling to her death, Spidey rescued her with his web, only to discover that she was already dead.

Throughout this four-part “A Death in the Family” storyline from PETER PARKER, SPIDER-MAN #44-47, Green Goblin had a vendetta against Spidey, as usual. Norman Osborn made it his goal to make Peter Parker’s life miserable. Osborn went after Parker on more than one occasion, even hurting those closest to him.

These two battle one another, but both tire out and sit against a wall to just…talk. They even crack jokes at one point. Spidey tells his foe about a dream he’s had over and over again about Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy, and how no one else would understand.

Spider-Man eventually ends the battle, telling Osborn that the Goblin would never win in a fight because Spidey doesn’t hate him to the point of total destruction. He can’t. At this point, Peter admits that if he ever caved into the hatred and angst against the Goblin, Gwen's memory would die for good.

In ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #7, the Green Goblin goes after Spidey at his high school, in sight of his friends and classmates!

During this time, Peter Parker’s still getting used to being Spider-Man, and he’s confused as to how Goblin even knows his actual name. When Parker makes it back to school, his friends and classmates ask whether or not he got a glimpse of Spidey and the bad guy, until Harry Osborn chimes in that the Goblin was his father, Norman, who’s presumably dead. Awkward...

Don't forget to catch Spidey and the Green Goblin in Sunday's one-hour special beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET inside Marvel Universe on Disney XD! Thwip thwip!

My absolute favorite is from the last episode of Spectacular Spider-Man. Norman really upped the ante for an insane showdown.
