When the Black Panther leaps onto screens everywhere in the 2009 BET-airing animated series, the super hero protector and King of Wakanda will truly make his presence known, thanks to the vocal talents of Academy Award-nominated actor Djimon Hounsou. Based directly on the BLACK PANTHER story "Who is the Black Panther?" by Reginald Hudlin and John Romita, Jr., the series recounts the origin of the iconic hero, while updating the character and his world for a new generation. A two-time Oscar nominee for "In America" and "Blood Diamond," Hounsou has also been honored with the NAACP Image Award, National Board of Review Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, Independent Spirit Award and the 2004 ShoWest Supporting Actor of the Year. "It's a blessing for African Americans and minorities to have a super hero they can identify with," says Hounsou. "While the Black Panther is a powerful force for good, he is also a respected world leader who takes pride in his African heritage. He embodies the past and future of his culture, demonstrating the endless possibilities of an Africa that is truly free." "BET is thrilled to have Djimon Hounsou join us as the voice of THE BLACK PANTHER," says Denys Cowan, Senior Vice President, Animation for BET Networks. "He is a talented, compelling actor who will be the perfect voice for such an important super hero in the Marvel universe and such a moment in this historic environment." "Having Djimon Hounsou voice the lead character in this new series speaks to the power of the character and the relationship between BET and Marvel Animation," said Eric Rollman, President of Marvel Animation. "The Black Panther animated series is Marvel's entrée into prime-time animation and Djimon raises the bar for all involved as we bring the best in the animation business together to execute on that vision." wow. im Excited and not so happy at the same time. Because im sorry, this shouldnt be a movie, or an animated movie , BUT a full, big screen debut. #2 It's gonna be on BET which is honestly allready making it look lame. So yall dropped the ball on this, and could do better. So im hoping that this is better than i think it will be. Because im all for an African American superhero(all african in his case) but its a better way to go about it. Because there is a Hawk, and War Machine, and Luke Cage and others. C'Mon Marvel, lets step it up.

Oooh, this looks pretty good! I wonder if BP series can hold its own against shows like X-Men and Iron Man, but I wish it the best. Djimon is awesome! Nice work, voice production.

Being a huge Black Panther fan, I'm really excited for this  But the motion comic thing is a bit of a change for me, but I'll get over it. Now, Marvel, make a movie please

1.anything that Reggie Hudlin is apart of is seriously gonna be crap...i mean LOOK at BET. 2. yes i think marvel lets Hudlin play the "Black" card too much and thats why he is writing the story and it will be on BET, luckily its been a year and it still hasnt debut. 3.There should be a Black Panther animated movie than rather than a show. It is not racist but very stereotypical to think black ppl will be more attracted to BP than other white heroes WRONG, We like the same main stream heroes that everybody else likes. U cant just force a hero into mainstream. You have to do it gradually, like how Marvel has slowly but surely made Deadpool a B-listers and soon to be a A-lister(he already is in my book) If you wanna go with BET for producing a Black Character then you should give Luke Cage a show, I love Cage he's great, but im pretty darn sure his "Blaxploitation-ous" feel would fit right in with the rest of BET

When I heard about this I was sooooo excited... " FINALLY A BLACK PANTHER PROJECT !" that is until I saw the trailer. What the heck? A motion comic? Really? After all these years Black Panther finally gets an animated series and all it is is a cheap choppy looking motion comic? WEAK! That just seems so lazy and half done. Especially when compared to how great Hulk Vs, X-Men Evolution, Invincible Ironman, Doctor Strange, etc all look When I read that it was being handled by BET I had my doubts (be honest BET isn't the highest quality network out there) but now I find out that it's not even "real" animation ...I'm so disappointed :(

This is going to be really cool, but everyone dont get too over excited, when Disney bought Marvel they made a statement that the cartoons will be shown on DisneyXD. So Im pretty sure the whole BET thing wont last. And buddy, Im pretty sure not many black people are going to relate to Black Panther just because hes black. Not to sound mean because Im not trying to, but Black Panther isnt from some racist town, hes a freaking African King. Can anyone hear relate that much to an African king? No, thought not.

He sure does look the part...beneath the mask, but I think that Michael Jai White can actually DO the things that we want to see the Blank Panther do. Very little need for a stunt man with Michael in there.

I'm just glad it wasn't put on SpikeTV. Last thing we need is a repeat of Blade, the series.

[quote@chiba151 BET is racist and putting this on BET just because the Black Panther is black is racist. I don't care for Marvel cartoons because they are for children anyway, but this is just racist. It's not like there is a White Entertainment Channel or an Asian Entertainment Channel or Latino Entertainment Channel that Marvel is targeting. This whole thing is just racist.
I believe that these accusations of racism are not only insulting, but also incorrect. The majority of television programming is targeted towards white people, which becomes evident by simply flipping through the channels on your television. This, unsurprisingly, leads to the demand for African American television networks, such as Black Entertainment Television. There are also networks emerging for Latin Americans. As Black Panther is an increasingly prominent black superhero, whom African Americans might relate to better than a number of white superheroes, it makes sense for the animated series to air on BET.
I would much rather see this as a movie. I don't know why Marvel hasn't turned it into a movie anyway. Marvel, you suck on this one.
That has actually been a long time coming:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Panther_(comics)#Film

This is the absolute worst thing Marvel could do! BET is the antithesis to every positive movement African-Americans have made in the past 50 years.I am a 30-something year old, well-educated black man who has been a fan of music and comics all of my life. I have been waiting for something like this for as long as I have been reading comics, but, in my humble opinion, putting this cartoon on BET will attract nothing but the absolute lowest common denomenator who will not appreciate the character or the story.I am BEGGING Marvel to not do this! PLEASE! Give it to the Cartoon Network. Hey, look what the did for Family Guy!

I am a little disappointed that it is coming on BET, I would prefer that if had to come on a cable channel it would be CARTOON NETWORK or NICKELODEON since they have the greater viewership, BET has a poor record as far as having original programming that haven't been picked up from being canceled elsewhere and rerunning shows that were successful on other networks and editing the crap out of them and trying to pass it off as being fresh. As a matter of fact BET copies the format of every noteworthy show, throws some black folk in it, and then tries to pass it off as "new and exciting", and they don't even get the good black shows and movies. They will destroy the Panther mythos---Marvel don't do it...go to Disney instead!!

Maybe this is just a start in his career for Marvel ? I mena, I hope that he plays someone if and when they do a live action BP film. He's got the voice and the body for it.

While I am not a fan of BET, due to a lack of positive, quality entertainment, I have to admit this is a step in the right direction. Hopefully, this series will help to lift the network up and not the other way around.

The writer for Black Panther (Reginald Hudlin) is an executive at BET. I believe that's why they got the show as opposed to another network...

I am excited about the upcoming Black Panther Animated Series. There are a lot of future fans out there of this character. I say that because although he is an Avenger in the comics, and the Husband of Storm of the X-Men, he isn't that well known. My son for instance, knows about all of the popular main-stream characters such as Spider-man, Hulk, Wolverine, Ironman, ect... Characters like Black Panther aren't that popular. To get to my point, I don't think that airing it on BET will get the ratings I know this show can pull in. I am african-american, but BET has lost me somewhere along the way. I did like the network once, but now it doesn't cater to me and my generation. I'm 33 years old and I can't find a show on BET that I can relate to anymore. Even MTV stopeed showing the videos that I like, videos period!. Anyway, I would like to see this show on CNW, the new Cartoon Network. I think that it needs to be marketed to everyone. It needs to become popular, I need for it to become popular. Love the Black Panther, will support the show on any network, but would love to see it do well. Maybe BET can start to advertise for it now, get the hype up. Two last thing's, I love that D'jmon H. is going to do the voiceover, and think that it should eventually go to the big screen within 10 years. :dead:

[quote@doitforkevin My only complaint about this show is that it's on BET. My reasoning is that by putting it on BET it makes me feel like they feel it won't be watched unless it is marketed directly to the black market. I'd rather have the character stand on its own merits rather than succeeding or failing based on race alone.
Very interesting observation, doit. :) I do think, though, that we might be able to see it on the internet.

[quote@JediMasterKunle Hounsou is a good pick for the Black Panther. I hope they come out with a toy line for this series that would set this off to a good start.
"Toy line"? I'm totally FREAKED OUT that they simply got Djimon Hounsou to voice the BLACK PANTHER! :P ......hi. lol

Hounsou would make a great live action BP. Though, it's too bad that the leader of a 'free' country isn't elected. The whole monarchy aspect of the character needs to be dropped.
