I have seen a preview of the animation style and in my opinion it is simply amazing. I do not hesitate when I say it completely suprasses the Spectacular Spider-Man animation. I simply cannot wait for this. Looks exactly like the comics. Very pleased so far!

After reading all these comments, I feel like the odd one out in my oppinions. To start with, I absolutly HATED The Spectacular Spider-Man series. I tried giving it a chance, but I just cound NOT get over the animation style. I simply disliked it so much that it got in the way of me hating the show. I'm glad to see it axed. As for point #2, I'm really looking forward to this new seires. I enjoy the comics. Some of the Ultimate villians get on my nerves (Ultimate Electro really got to me in the game), but asside from that, I'd love to see that animated. My dream is to see a Spider-Man 2099 series, though I know the chances are slim. I'm just hoping Disney win't make a bad job of it. Disney is my main concern in all this... if it was 15 or 20 years ago, I'd be thrilled about Disney doing a Spidey series. But in the age of Miley Cirus and Zac Efron, not to mention countless annoying cartoons which lack the quality of older Disney animations, this announcement REALLY makes me nervous... I guess we'll just wait and see.

Yes great work marvel. Cancelling one show that gets both critical and commercial success. Well a lot less audience for incoming products of yours certainly.

I think that this series will be okay. I'm a huge fan of the comics. Although, considering that they just did a huge revamp of spiderman cartoons with Spectacular, it's kinda weird to see this appearing so soon. So far, I'm still considering this Disney/Marvel thing a good idea, as Imagin what marvel can do with Disney's resources. My only problem is that Disney might aim Marvel at younger audiences (and strenghthen the steriotype that all comics and superheroes are for 5 year olds)

Has marvel even ever gotten this much negetive response?

And you know, a lot of fans are angry, it's not just me. Though I find it interesting that a moderator should come into the thread, defending Disney and Marvel for their decisions and addressing me directly in an attempt to do what appears to be to 'weaken' my stance. Just because they're doing something with one character doesn't mean they listen to the fans, that's called coincidence. That's probably something they randomly decided to do and just implemented because they felt like it. When they start actually following what the fans ask for and desire then I'll believe it but a single thing like this? No. Furthering your shaky defense being as you're a moderator is the fact that, well.. Have you read this thread? The responses are almost all negative. Virtually no one is happy with this, parents, fans, normal viewers etc.. That's gotta tell you something.Seriously.. You wanna defend Disney? Whatever. You're a moderator, you're probably obligated somehow.. Just try to find a less shaky defense.

I at first was all for the new series, but then I remember how "spectacular" the other series was. (And yet, there is a pun that is intended, and yet really true.)The problem started when Disney bought Marvel. They said they would not interfere with the tv and film stuff as long as they keep making them. That was a minor problem. After Sony fired Sam Raimi, they decided to reboot the series. The Spectacular Spider-Man borrowed elements from Sam Raimi's films. If they are rebooting then there is absolutely no point in keeping Spectacular. It would take a miracle for them to continue the series. The Ultimate series is most likely going to have elements to the new reboot, as they already announced that they would base it after those comics.Even though Spectacular Spider-Man already has elements from the Ultimate comics (such as it's version of Eddie Brock and yet have the film version of the symbiote.) it still has the elements from the films, like what I just mentioned, and the genetically enhanced spider. This would not go well with the new reboot, and would be a little awkward. So, unless Sony decides to keep those elements, there is absolutely no way that they would be keeping it.I'm going to miss Spectacular Spider-Man, as it was the best series of all time, even a lot better than Spider-Man TNAS (In which there was more talk and less action.)Now, I just would like Marvel and Disney to actually do well with their new contract. It has been almost a year, and then when the anniversary of the contract is just a few months away, everything goes crazy. First the reboot, (which I think was done because they feared disney would interfere) and then the series cancelation. All the fans here are already mad. (I myself am not mad, more like disappointed, but that is it.)

Nova1
Nova1

Wow, so much hate over one cartoon...ah well. I wonder why Nova is going to be involved in this cartoon. Seems like Disney does want to push the character into the spotlight a bit after all...which is something I've been asking for. So, does that mean they don't listen to any of their fans?

JadeTora
JadeTora

Well, like I've said in other threads.. Disney doesn't care about the fans, that means that now Marvel doesn't care about the fans because Marvel has been bought by Disney and Disney's cancer is already running rampant throughout Marvels veins making the inevitability of fail.. Well, an inevitability to be redundant.Disney is one of those cold, souless and wicked corporations that would like to make you think they care but in reality they don't. They're only interested in their bottom line and the big wigs that run everything are only concerned with continuing to live their exceedingly gluttonous and disgusting lifestyles. Disney canceled Wolverine and the X-Men, Spectacular Spiderman and Iron Man: AA because they were on Nickelodeon, Disney doesn't want to share and doesn't want something associated with another company already because they have this childish "MINE" stigma that they seem to never get over. Which is great because that means we the fans suffer for their being pig headed and being basically a bunch of greedy slobs.Way to go, Disney! You've set Marvel on the downward spiral to fail, you'll kill it sooner or later and you personally have set me as a permanent fan of DC - At least DC makes decent animated series and doesn't cancel each one of them first or second season in. So in closing, again. Way to go and congratulations you spectacular incomprehensibly incompetent morons! You've actually hurt your bottom line by trying to maximize your bottom line and that takes some true grade A ineptitude and stupidity.( PS: I was intentionally redundant with my wording. Just wanted to hammer the point into Disney's thick skull. Although I think I broke my hammer and probably achieved nothing for it. I shall mourn that hammer.. It was a good hammer.. )

Disney said they would not interfere with Marvel's day to day operations, namely the comics themselves. However, being an animation and movie studio, I knew this would effect the movie franchises and animated series that were being produced by other studios. The first victim is Spectacular Spider-Man. It was produced by Sony's animation, and it was a great show. Disney stepped in and made a deal that Sony could continue to make the movies, but Disney wanted to make the cartoons. Fine, not a problem, work with the Sony creative team and continue to make the series with Disney animators....DID NOT HAPPEN. The creators of the show waited on tender hooks for Disney to green light it, but they never heard anything. So now, we have this announcement. A completely Disney produced cartoon...which will probably be a good show....but we are left disappointed that the Disney buy out has already had a negative result.Next question...what about Wolverine and the X-Men. Good show....will it continue? And here is something to get your goat if you live in the States. The "two" seasons of SS and WatXM were shown as one season in Canada.I was able to download and watch the entire series before the "second season" even aired in the US. I still watched it on Nick Toons and Disney XD when they aired, and they were touted as "new" episodes. This whole thing smells rotten. And starting a FB campaign might help you vent your frustration, but it won't work. A large group tried to save the MTV series, and at one time I had read an article that Sony was thinking of producing a DVD of more episodes never seen on TV....didn't happen. It's over and and we fans are victims of what could have been a great merger that so far has robbed us of great entertainment. and it would have made Marvel/Disney a load of cash.

:venom: Great idea! Just one minor problem. What style will it be in? CGI? Cartoon(Like Spectcular)?Animated(Like 90s)?I would perfer CGI or Animated. Also, please do NOT end it at like episode 80, make it at least 200 episodes. Think ya can't do it? You can, with effort.I'd like the episodes to be weekly, and no breaks. I don't want to wait 2 months for the next season, 1 month, maybe but that is it. Also, make the seasons like 20 episodes each please. Please make the show PG rated, not G or TVY7, that ruins all the possibilities. (It also makes the writers use their own ideas and not the comic's.)If you and Disney did that, I'd be really happy. Thank you!Oh, and just for the record: What is the point of making a kids show? I mean this is exactly what children will be thinking:Spider-Man! Yay, Spider-Man! Ultimate Spider-Man, yay! It's based on a comic series? I wanna read it! (Gets the comic) Mommy, why is carnage and venom eating people? What do those #$@& phrases mean? (Mom does not say, but we all know that those are cuss word censors.) Waaa, Why did Uncle Ben have to die! I hate you Marvel! I wonder if I can sling webs too, (does the spidey trademark move) Grrr I cannot sling a web, oh I have to be bitten by a spider? Bring it!See my point? You might as well make it PG, that would go great premeiring after Naruto.

ok. make a new show. fine. while i like SSM, if this feels close im ok. the down side? we have already seen this. im not against marvel/disney taking this in house. but we just had a show that covered spider-man's origin. And the spidey high school thing. It seems like every time you want to do a new spider-man deal, we have to start all over with the story. your fan base knows it already. you had the 90's show gave it, spectacular gave it, i very successful move gave it. don't do it again. no more spider-man origin. start later, if you need to do high school like junior year or something, after he's had the powers for a while and IS spider-man. the peter parker coming to grips thing is not fresh. you want to do a guest star running with spidey every episode fine. but if you want me to watch it it needs to be about spider-man, not the guest stars and not some more whinny peter parker stuff. the guy's life sucks. great powers or not, i'd move to like Wisconsin. make some cheese or something. it's less and less fun every time you do it, now its just sad....

I think this is cool that "Ultimate Spider-Man" is getting own show now. And I think it can be very good. But I think Disney XD ( WHICH HAS AN AWESOME LINEUP OF SUPERHERO SHOWS ON SATURDAY NIGHTS) is picking the same heros to put on their channel and I think them and Marvel should start thinking showing some new heros. And the reason for me saying this cause they keep wanting to show different verisons of spiderman and people get bored. What they should start doing is start showing other marvel heros. And if I was doing a show I would do a huge Marvel show. That starts at the "Civil War" all the way to the "Serect Invasion" and ending with the "Siege" events and that would be cool. But to something like that it would have to be an adult swim show, because for it to be good it needs to be dark. But they could do a kid friendly version. But I don't think it would be good.

Why on earth are you doing this? You had a good show, it needs a season 3.Spectacular was already nearly ASM all you needed to do is put in other heroes that are older than Pete.

Let me start off by saying I created an account here only to add to this discussion. Secondly, I will be honest and admit I have always been a DC fan, primarily because of Batman. But now that I have a three year old son who absolutely loves Spider-man, I find myself hooked, and primarily because of The Spectacular Spider-man Animated Series. The two of us watch this show constantly, dvr all episodes, and we even bought the first season dvd twice! The Spectacular Spider-man is so great, I can not possibly understand why it would be discontinued. The stories are outstanding, and the animation is just as good. Everyone knows how great Batman The Animated Series was, and The Spectacular Spider-man is the only super-hero cartoon that comes close, and it may even be better. This past Christmas my son wanted all the action figures from The Spectacular Spider-man and after pricing them on eBay it became obvious to me that my son and I aren't alone on this issue. I am so excited to see so many other people sharing my dissappointment, and speaking out on it. PLEASE Marvel, do not follow through with this, or at least keep The Spectatcular Spider-man series going! Besides, we still need Hasbro to make a Black Cat action figure! :venom:

MAN!! This is so dissapointing, im totally crushed that they arent going to follow through with spectacular spidey! that show was freaking delicious!! now disney comes along with this crappola? and what worries me even more is that a) it will probably end up looking like superhero squad, b) its prob gonna be focused for younger audiences and c) if they are screwing around like this what might they do with the new spider man movie reboot?..........this is very concerning indeed.. :dead:

well, looks like anything i could've said has already been put out there. remember back when marvel "hooked up" with disney and everyone was like "bad idea" or "is this a bad idea?" well, at least now we know.team back up with sony if you have to disney-marvel. end things at season 3 if you have to just have a season 3. my personal opinion, best animated show i've ever watched. easily tops batman tas, gargoyles, avatar, justice league and jlu, and any anime i can think of. won't go through all the reasons why here, just know that it does. it's unbelievable that you'd cut it like this. just can't see unlimited being better?

I do not know about this. While I love the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, I have the feeling that this show will take the teenage angst from the book and insert ideas for kids. Let's just hope :venom: is done well. As for me, I want to see an adult swim :dead: series so badly. I think that would be awesome!

I am so glad that there are more of you out there who appreciate "The Spectacular Spider-Man" cartoon because it is the best example of comic book hero turned animated since Batman TAS. I can also tell that some of you have been very vulgar and terse in your responses because they have had to be removed. That means that someone is reading our posts keep it up an maybe Marvel will listen this time to us. Save the Spectacular Spider-Man!! Hopefully someone will see this and realize that you don't need a new Spidey, the one you have is awesome! What are they going to do if this new show sucks? Tell me that!Anyway I appreciate everyone else out there who is speaking out on behalf of a great cartoon. We could certainly use more like the Spectacular Spider-Man!

This is exactly why I can't trust anything that has to do with Spider-man anymore. I loved the spectacular Spider-man series. It was funny and clever and managed to pull off decent fights while still being kid-friendly. I loved that it was original that they would do innovative things like have lines from the play that Parker was missing in order to stop a prison break be used as narration in a way that fit incredibly well. (Episode: Opening Night) I have nothing against Ultimate Spider-man, but unless this is merely a name change I expect to be disappointed by the tv show.

No. Just no.Here's a reason why Spectacular Spider-Man shouldn't get canceled or replaced.Marvel, stop rebooting things, especially things that need not be rebooted. We don't need to make an Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon for crossovers, we can do that right now with Spectacular Spider-Man anyways. We don't need to make a cartoon based off the Ultimate Spider-Man series because we have a good, creative, and most important of all, VERY ORIGINAL storyline set by Greg Weisman and Victor Cook. Because we as fans, we want to see something fresh and original that also taps back into our favorite material, whether it be original, ultimate, or the movies. That's why we love Spectacular Spider-Man. It's a whole new Spider-Man that we get to see! It's not only kid friendly but it can get some of the older audience's attention too! It's original, it's fast paced, the story line's well written if not with a few oddballs ideas my only problem was with the korean animating which felt stiff at times but most of all it was okay.Sean Galloway's designs was what made me fall in love with the series along with it's brilliant mixture of everything Spider-Man but make it completely new!We as the general fans don't wanna see an exact copy of the cartoon series. Because there are those of us who don't like Ultimate Spider-Man to those that do. I hate a lot of storylines in Ultimate but I love a lot of storylines in Ultimate, samething with the movies, the 90's series, and the original comics and that's what the series did! They gave us the most possible way why Eddie would be mad and hating of Peter, the other Eddies, all of them, were just plain douchebags! They gave us a confusing love story (how a love story should be) between Peter, Gwen, Liz, Harry, and even Mary Jane! We want to see how this turns out! We want to see how the series will finish or if YOU will allow it to go beyond Peter's college years! And now, you're giving us a cartoon completely and utterly based off a story we all might've read and that's just boring. We do not want to see the same recycled storylines and believe me, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE THE INCREDIBLE HULK-GOBLIN. Because, even making an Ultimate Spider-Man TV series will bring less money to both Disney and Marvel's doors.I shall say it one more time. No. We do not need an Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, what we need is Spectacular Spider-Man Seasons 3 - 10.That's what we need. And if you, Marvel, was smart. You'd take advantage of what negative feedback this is getting on YouTube, here, or any other comic website. Please, just don't go ahead with this series. Cancel it completely and go back to what the fans (both adult, teen, and children alike) want.We don't care how far you are into production. We don't care if you brought back the VAs from the video-game.We don't care about Ultimate Spider-Man animated, so how is that going to do you?No good.

Oh, is this for real? Why Marvel? Spectacular Spider-Man was perhaps the greatest Spider-Man cartoon ever, but instead of letting it fully develop and finish its story, you had to cut it off for this tripe. I'm not looking forward to this, despite how much of a fan of Spider-Man I am.First the comics go downhill, now this...

ktkid24

Well because Sony made the old show and then sold back the tv rights to Marvel and Disney. If they continued the show they would have to go through Sony in order to keep the show consistent, because Sony owns that studio. So as much as I will miss Spectacular Spider-Man, this was the best move. At least now we can see Iron Fist and Nova like the poster shows in the background...

Man this sucks, I found out about this yesterday and I was shocked to hear about it. I wish it could have at least had a third season to tie up all the loose ends. Their were still so many great stories they could have done like the CloneSaga, the appearance of of Carnage and the Scorpion. Why the production team even bothered to only do 13 episodes per seasons, I will never know. They should have done a lot more than that while they still had the oppurtunity to do so.

I have watched every spiderman cartoon series. from the silly 60's cartoon, the 80's series (which in my opinion was the best), the "a-team" style of the 90's (lots of explosions but no gets hurt) and the current ssm. Spectacular spiderman is a good solid show, but i think the reason they are going in this direction is to showcase some other characters they haven't had a chance to.Think about it how cool would it be to have iron fist team up with spidey on the cartoon. or have a "amazing friends" reunion? And have other villians than just his normal ones.i think it will work. OH and by the way please don't refer disney xd in that way. it's very wrong. we can be civil and still show disdain. And maybe ssm won't be cacelled if it's rating are high and it has enough sponsors maybe they won't replace it. you never can tell.

I don't understand, everyone I know and heard from LOVED Spectacular Spider-Man and the direction it was going. I, myself, personally ranks it in my top 5 greatest animated series and it takes my top mark in Marvel animated series... It makes no sense to me to bring in a show similar to the really good old one. Whatever happened to the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it." I would like some elaboration on why this happened, was it sales, view ship or is this a ploy to gain new watchers, because Super Hero squad already does that. We may have another Whedon-esque uprising on our hands...

I loved season one of the Spectacular Spider-man then you guys rip it away from me and put in on Disney XD(which I don't have in my area) for the 2nd season (I'm still waiting for the full season DVD to come out!) and now this crap. I seriously don't know why I invest an ounce of my attention and $$$ to you Marvel. You never finish anything you start or wrap it up. All you have done in my life is get me excited and into something and then you just cancel it to go in a new direction. (examples: Spider-man 90's series, Spider-man movie franchise, the Scarlet Spider, Spider-man and MJ, etc.) I mean come on at least finish it up in the 3rd season...if you were smart you could have even somehow linked the 2 together. Don't get me wrong I love the Ultimate Story, but it's just too soon. You caught lightning in a bottle with SSM, why throw it out the window and try something else....ugh I'm gonna be sick...

Seriously, why not just do what everybody wants to see: Spectacular Spider-Man Season 3! I don't know one person who has seen at least one episode who did not fall in love with the show. Why start a new one with the older one unfinished? I guess Marvel is just rebooting everything now-a-days.

captaincanuck65 your so right I really like the Spectacular Spider-Man series I can't get enough of the re-runs. why?why would marvel cancel an awesome cartoon whose story clearly isn't finished to make way for a slightly different yet ultimately (no pun intended) similar show?Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the Ultimate Spider-Man comics and would most likely have been excited for this announcement if it didn't mean certain doom for Spectacular Spider-Man.I've been a Spider-Man fan since I first watched the 90s animated show as a kid. When that show ended I was sad, but it ended in a place that made sense. When Spider-Man Unlimited came on, I watched that too, but then it was cancelled on a cliff hanger. I realize that was Fox Kid's fault for wanting to compete with Pokemon with Digimon () but that was pretty frustrating. In high school I got into the MTV Spider-Man cartoon, which ended with Peter Parker giving up Spidey after his friend died. It was also cancelled. Then Spectacular Spider-Man came out, I was wary b/c it looked really childish, but I gave it a chance and it ended up being the most fun, well developed Spider-Man cartoon since my beloved 90s animated series (and to be honest, Spectacular was probably much better than even that). And now, it's being cancelled again. But this time, not because of low viewership or because the network wants to fill the time slot with a crappy pokemon knock-off. This time it's being cancelled to make way for another Spider-Man cartoon. That doesn't even make sense.I'm getting tired of investing in characters and stories only to have no resolution. Please finish what you start Marvel.

I am assuming that this spells the end of The Spectacular Spider-man series.
