We received some disturbing information this morning that Stephen Colbert may not be as wholesome as we thought.

Eagle-eyed Marvel fans on Twitter sent us screenshots and links to a suspicious moment during the April 21, 2014 episode of "The Colbert Report." Normally, during the title sequence of the show, Stephen Colbert is shown heroically, surrounded by powerful words and phrases. But on this night, Colbert's patriotic visage was accompanied by the chilling words, "Hail Hydra."

Fans who've seen Marvel's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (and if you haven't, get your tickets now!) know what the phrase "Hail Hydra" means, and we'd be shocked to find out if the bastion of truthiness was in fact a Hydra agent all along.

Marvel, Stephen Colbert, and "The Colbert Report" share storied history. Marvel Chief Creative Officer, and former Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada has made several apperances on "The Colbert Report" over the years, becoming a friend to the show. Quesada, one of the greatest comic book artists of all time, even depicted Colbert in a Hulk-like state. In 2008, Stephen Colbert crossed more than party lines--he crossed universes, vying for the U.S. presidency within the pages of Marvel Comics. During his bid to be president, Stephen Colbert even made it onto the cover of a Marvel comic!

But the most iconic moment between Marvel and Stephen Colbert came in 2007, following the "death" of Captain America, when Cap's very own shield was bequethed to the television show host. Watch the video below to relive the momentous occasion.

Captain America's shield remains on "The Colbert Report" set to this day, but if Mr. Colbert truly does align with Hydra...what will become of the Star-Spangled Avenger's shield? Only time will tell.

Colbert is king, and this is timely but touting Quesada as "one of the greatest comic book artists of all time" is shameless if he's now an executive. Not a hater, and admire some of his covers, but it's absurd to go there - unless you're lampooning yourselves, Mr. Q and hype in general.  Even HypeMonster Stan the Man did not go there.

Colbert is so funny. I love that he hails Hydra. I saw the Captain America winder soldier movie and it was good. Colbert should make friends with Bob, agent of Hydra. That would be funny and if Colbert dressed up like a Hydra agent. That would be a fun running skit.
