Phoenix in Marvel vs. Capcom 3

What an EVO!  Crazy combos, jaw-dropping comebacks and absolute fighting madness rocked the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas this past weekend as the Evolution 2011 World Championships brought fighting games to the next level.

When the dust cleared, Jay “Viscant” Snyder, emerged victorious in “Marvel vs. Capcom 3.”  His Wesker/Iron Man/Phoenix and Wesker/Haggar/Phoenix teams left a trail of broken and bloodied opponents all the way to Grand Finals.  He sent tournament favorites like Justin Wong, Marn and Clockwork to the losers bracket, and only fell to MCZ DMG PR Balrog in one set before claiming the MvC3 EVO 2011 Championship in stellar fashion.

But amazing action could be found throughout the entire MvC3 tournament, certainly not quarantined to the Top 8 matches.  coL. CC Combofiend made an amazing rally against Fanatiq, Bionic Arm-ing him home and staying true to his unofficial nickname, “Comebackfiend.”  Clockw0rk proved he’s still one of the most intelligent and adaptable players out there when he switched up the game plan with his patented Doctor Doom/Amaterasu/Phoenix team and sent Flocker’s deadly Dark Phoenix crew packing.

The Top 32 saw some very interesting team choices and few of the lesser-used characters in the roster made appearances.  EMP Evil Rahsan gave EG Justin Wong’s She-Hulk a run for her money with some very clutch Spider-Man play and Crispy Tacos’ Felicia anchor was a blur of blue fur and claws with Level 3 X-Factor activated.

The most entertaining matches of the tournament were played by the 8 year-old prodigy Noah and his Hulk/Sentinel/Wesker team.  He made it all the way to Top 48 before LB ChrisGNY ended his tournament dreams.  Noah definitely earned his Best Up and Comer award so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for this kid in the future.

EVO 2011 was absolutely amazing.  If you missed the stream keep an eye onevo2k.com/liveShoryuken.comEventhubs.com and iplaywinner.com for the archived footage.  For all you EVO champion hopefuls, keep training and bring your combos to Vegas in 2012!
