Marvel vs. Capcom Origins

Marvel vs. Capcom Origins: Wolverine & Cyclops

We continue profiling the players of 'Marvel vs. Capcom Origins' with Wolverine and Cyclops!

"Marvel vs. Capcom Origins"

In the lead up to “Marvel vs. Capcom Origins,” coming September 25 to PlayStation Network and September 26 to Xbox Live Arcade, Marvel.com (along with our pals at Capcom Unity) thought it'd be fun to run through the roster and highlight each of the characters from both” Marvel Super Heroes” and the original “Marvel vs. Capcom,” meaning we've got a lot of ground to cover.

We’ll give you their full stats along with where they were during the time they appeared in “Marvel Super Heroes” (1995) and “Marvel vs. Capcom” (1999). You can catch new profiles on the Marvel characters right here every Tuesday and Friday, and Capcom has its own write up right here.

By Ben Chabala

First Appearance: THE INCREDIBLE HULK #180

“MvC Origins” Appearances: Playable character in “Marvel Super Heroes,” “Marvel vs. Capcom”

Bio: Wolverine’s the best there is at what he does, and he’s been doing it for a really long time. Raised in Canada in the late 19th century, the ol’ Canucklehead fought in both WWI and WWII, in which he teamed up with Captain America to take it to the Nazi scum. But Weapon X, memory implants, brainwashing, and a healthy dose of adamantium and experimentation transformed the man named Logan into little more than an animalistic killing machine. Alpha Flight and Charles Xavier worked to bring Wolverine back from the brink, to give him back his humanity and the chance to be a hero again, and he took it. Now he fights on the side of the angels--mostly--but he’s not afraid to get his hands dirty. Mess with the best and you’ll get the claws like the rest.

Where He Was in 1995: In the Age of Apocalypse, a parallel universe ruled by En Sabah Nur, Logan goes by the name Weapon X. Here he kills for the Human High Council and believes that only a nuclear holocaust stands a chance of wiping Apocalypse from the world. That he might be caught in the blast as the bomb goes off…well, it’s not a bad way to go.

Where He Was in 1999: After living without his adamantium for six years, Logan regained the metal coating his skin…as Death, the Horseman of Apocalypse. Mind controlled into betraying his fellow X-Men, Wolverine eventually breaks out from under Apocalypse’s spell and helps his teammates take down the baddie once and for all.

Cyclops & Wolverine

First Appearance: X-MEN (1963) #1

“MvC Origins” Appearances: Assist character in “Marvel vs. Capcom”

Bio: Before Scott Summers became the cool, calculating, and composed leader of all mutant kind, he was an orphan who couldn’t control his own incredible ability. That all changed when Charles Xavier invited Scott to join his School for Gifted Youngsters. In Westchester he learned to harness his optic blasts and, alongside Angel, Beast, Ice Man and Marvel Girl, fought to help a world that both hated and feared them. He’s faced down cosmic forces of death, been possessed by Apocalypse, and saved the universe more times than he can count. Always bet on Scott Summers.

Where He Was in 1999: Scott Summers, along with wife Jean Grey, returns to the group at its darkest hour as Professor X disbands the team. Refusing to accept this, Cyclops sets out to continue the X-Men’s mission with Angel, Cable, Wolverine, and more just as Apocalypse’s final plan ramps into high gear. Cyclops and the X-Men face the villain, but in the final battle Scott gives his life in order to stop Apocalypse’s menace for good.
