As if you needed another reason to pick up your controllers and jam on some "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2" again, a slew of new characters and sim missions are on their way to Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers. We'll have weekly spotlights on each new character with screenshots, video and quotes from the folks behind the games, and today the enigmatic mutant and soldier from the future, Cable, is our star!

Alex Kerr, Community Manager for Vicarious Visions, on Cable:

When I'm playing as Cable, the word that comes to my mind is "brutal." The power designers, animators and sound designers infused a feeling of deadly efficiency throughout all of his moves. From a visual standpoint, Cable has some of the most visually striking powers in the game (a favorite around the office is his fourth power, Particle Beam, which projects a searing, multi-layered laser into Cable's foes), but his body language is calculated, abrupt and professional—reflecting his training as a soldier.

Cable blasting away in "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2"
His powers have dramatic effects: Cable can stun an entire crowd of foes, blast multiple opponents off their feet from a distance, scatter swarms of attackers, fill small enclosed spaces with deadly energy bolts and lay down huge amounts of damage whether he's fighting in close quarters or far away. He's kind of like a killer Boy Scout: no matter what the situation, Cable's prepared. His Fusions are particularly fun to pull off, and just as over-the-top as you'd expect from a guy with guns from the future: during his Fusion with Jean Grey, he unleashes a blast that's so destructive, it tears glowing, smoking holes into the ground.

Randy Ma, Intern, Marvel Games:

Cable in "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2"

Cable definitely falls under the rubric of a ranged character. Aside from a radial attack, most of Cable's special mutant attacks are grenades, beams and bullets, so players should definitely consider sitting back in battle and shooting off enemies from a distance. That is not to say Cable isn't suitable for brawling in MUA2—but there are few things more satisfying than shooting off a particle beam and destroying four enemies in a line. Also, be on the lookout for a fun little Achievement/Trophy with Cable's "best buddy." It's definitely a great Easter egg for comic fans.

Chris Scharling, Sound Designer for Vicarious Visions, on Cable:

I worked closely with Chris D'Ambrosio, another one of our sound designers, to make Cable sound like a walking cyborg tank. We were extremely fortunate to have the freedom to go crazy with our creativity and with that, we set out to make him badass.

Cable and Iron Man in "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2"
Chris did an awesome job of giving Cable's bionic arm a life of its own.  Cable has a really cool power where he jumps up in the air and slams his fist into the ground, creating a shockwave that knocks back enemies.  There's a nice low-end boom that comes out when he hits the ground, and it really gives you a sense of raw power each time you unleash it.  I'm also really proud of his flash grenades.  We wound up including a 5 kilohertz tone (which basically is the sound that you hear when your ears ring) to add that feeling of being dazed by the power of the grenades. The sound his laser makes when he does his fusion moves sounds really fierce, and you get an awesome sense of unleashing incredible amounts of destruction with it.  For me, it was the moment when we felt that we'd really nailed the feel of Cable being a walking tank.

'Nuff said!
welllllllll,i dont think its that much of a prob'. :cable: is okay to have as a playable character.I know you feel very pissed but whats worse is not having bishop as a DLC.And also, what about :shehulk: :norinradd: and :beast:

[quote@Crossxbonesx I wonder what the teams are gonna be? i mean Bosom Buddies! :dead: :cable: andIron Fist Luke Cage?there has GOTTA be a team with deadpool and cable side by side. I'm like a cult follower of DeadPool..If he doesn't get some sort of team with Cable, I'll cry and send hatemail!
Unfortunately, Marvel and/or VV didn't see fit to make that quartet a team, can't figure why for the life of me, but I see some folly about 'Pool, Cage, Spidey and Venom - but if the point was that there never was an official team formed with the actual two best bud duos, they contradict because there definitely wasn't one with Spidey and Venom - particularly as Spidey could've hung with Brock from time to time, but definitely not Gargan; who this Venom is.Hopefully some online game update will resolve that and make a team formed by putting those four together; Cage, Fist, Cable and 'Pool, that is. [Thought there wasn't a Double Date team, turns out that now the game update that kept failing to install was the culprit preventing all of BP's, Magneto's and Cable's team combos from showing, still no combo boost with Cable, 'Pool, Cage and Fist though] . I know they don't have to and won't include (or think of) every tentative team formation there could be in there, but these are the biggies of recent (and Civil War related) history.A zanier idea would be an automatically triggered substitution for Human Torch into Firestar whenever he's put on a team with Iceman and Spider-Man making an Amazing Friends team (instead of the mere minor conversation bonus), but then I realized it'd void the creation of 'Shut Up Already' - unless they make it so it's triggered by the fourth being anyone but Deadpool, or specifying a fourth to cause the triggering. They should really look into the FF team bonus opportunities though, especially since everyone was noting how Avengers and X-Men centric the rosters are.(edited based on correction after game update)

I for one am very excited to play as Cable no matter what capacity, if any, they use his powers for. I also agree that they need to put a date out for these DLCs because most people are gonna lose interest.

To stay in essence with the character, as you have read all the series, you would note that the definitive aspect of Cable is that his tk is employed constantly and at great strain to hold back his techno-organic infection. Though a number of stories have seen him use it and/or substitute it with such as the 'cone of silence' he's almost always defaulted back to being someone who doesn't employ his mutant powers.I guess they may be trying to stick close to that, and even with me bringing up what I said in the previous paragraph, I'd think it sorta boring/defeatist if there's absolutely no use of said powers. He's forced to use them from time to time, and I'd hope that in the least a low level telekinetic assault is usable when he comes (even if, understandably, they have some consequence to him using it - they've found interesting ways of translating Penance's pain=power aspect, so I'm sure if they had tried there's a way to not just make him a gun-slinging brawler).I'm glad he and Psylocke made it in, and I'm not one that minds even more X-characters, but I hope a complete roster or two of some non-Avengers and non-X-Men teams make their way in to make this fell totally Marvel Universe inclusive (though that's a tall order of who's never been an Avenger or X-Man).

:cable: I have recently read all of the cable and deadpool series and from what i saw in video for cable, I feel a little disappointed. it seems like all he relies on is his gun, I was hoping for a power or 2 involving his TK abilites. I know that he is a soldier, but he is still a mutant with an ability, I was hoping they would exploit that a little. :dead:

Um they keep mentioning all these nifty characters. When will they be available for download? I mean, the game is great but if we have to keep waiting, no one's going to be interested in playing anymore by the time these come out. My son ad I have beaten the game twice over already. I have a buddy that already brought his copy to Gamestop and traded it in for a store credit for Arkham Asylum cuz he got bored. I just think it's stupid that we haven't been given a date.

Can't wait to see Cable in the game. He plays such an important role throughout the game, it only makes sense he be playable.
