Been waiting for massively multiplayer (MMO) games featuring your favorite Marvel characters? Wait no more, True Believers. Coming soon, you'll be able to interact with Marvel characters like never before!

Gazillion Entertainment today unveiled a key partnership to develop MMO games based on Marvel Entertainment properties.

"Gazillion is thrilled by the opportunity to introduce a series of massively multiplayer games for Marvel fans worldwide," said Rob Hutter, President and CEO of Gazillion. "Without any question, the chance to work with the incredible library of 5,000 characters in the Marvel Universe—not to mention the creative leadership working across the comics, animated series, movies and every other media form where Marvel reigns supreme—is an exhilarating opportunity for any videogame company."

With team members from Apple, Blizzard Entertainment, Microsoft Game Studios, Pixar Animation Studios and many other leading companies, Gazillion has assembled talent from across the landscape of MMOs, console videogames, animated feature films and technology to address the mission of building breakthrough MMOs capable of resonating with wide audiences.

Gazillion's new licensing agreement with Marvel calls for the development and publishing of MMO games featuring Marvel's iconic universe super heroes. The first game in development is a casual MMO for younger audiences based on Marvel's Super Hero Squad property. Super Hero Squad features an exciting, super-stylized look for the greatest Super Heroes, including Iron Man, Hulk, Wolverine, Thor, Fantastic Four, Captain America and many others.

"Marvel has brought an incredible insight to this project, and that is the goal of creating a full range of persistent world experiences for the entire audience base," Hutter added. "We're planning on launching separate games but as additional games are released, they'll share various levels of connection. The unprecedented nature of Marvel's multiple MMO strategy not only guarantees an amazing lineup of Casual and AAA MMO games, but further makes it possible for new and dedicated followers alike to interact in a connected series of massively entertaining experiences. We're also underway on a major new Marvel Universe PC and Console MMO that will introduce a number of breakthrough features which we'll start discussing in the upcoming months here at Marvel.com."

"Marvel's library features a large and world-renowned stable of characters, making it tailor made for massively multiplayer entertainment that will appeal to a wide audience eager for more opportunities to interact with these iconic character franchises," said Simon Philips, President, Worldwide Consumer Products for Marvel Entertainment. "Gazillion's excellence in casual and AAA MMOs makes this an ideal partnership to fully leverage this powerful entertainment arena, bringing fans an exciting, interactive experience with the Marvel brand."

Marvel MMO for the 360--I have praying for a long time; I just wish I had thought to search it out before I started writing a game concept myself--such a dork. :)

I hope that it is still comming out for 360, and you can create your own character.

Okay, this was brought to our attention last year in March about the same time as the DC MMO was brought to light; however unlike the DC MMO the Marvel MMO STILL DOESN'T HAVE A RELEASE DATE!!!....I WANT IT NOW!!!!

cant wait, over 5,000 characters in the Marvel Universe when I heard about marvel universe being cancelled for xbox360(good) for pc(bad)! i was realy dissapointed. but now that i have found out that youre making an MMO i am really excited i hope it contains all the aspects neede for the game:free-rome(like in spiderman) as destructive and hectic like in hulk and iron man. I also hope there will be other things as well such as: Spider-man can access his many costumes, the avengers tower, his apartement, quinjet, baxter building, daily bugle etc, Wolverine can acces x-mansion. Iron man can access all his armour and wear it, avengers mansion. I hope that you also bring it out on PS3 aswell pc (not bothered about xbox360). We could then have an option of playing online, aswell as gaining downloadable content. PS3 would be great because of the graphics, gameplay(like xbox360) would be better than pc, you could use the sixaxis controller for certain things/character, Flying: iron man, human torch, dr strange, thor, quinjet. I hope you do bring it out on PS3 and if you do it will b on the of my wishlist

Having two games, aiming at two demographics is logical. After all, comics used to cater to everyone, young and old. With the rating system that's currently used, the gaps between what could be read by younger readers and more 'mature' readers widen quite considerably. That said, Marvel has been carefully trying to boost interest in younger audiences by introducing kid-'friendly' versions of Spider-Man and company, and by extension the 'Super Hero Squad' toys, apparel, and Marvel Adventures comic books. So that means that having an MMO based on this kid stuff to be logical. Why this one first before the one geared towards older players? It'd be easier to develop, with less content that'll need to be created in order to keep the young ones interested. With renevue from the first one, they can apply more fundage to the (most likely) Teen rated game.My only hope is that there will be customization available to players to make their own characters set in the Marvel Universe, rather than play a character with a set range of costumes and powers. Besides, I'd hate to see the variations of Spider-Man clones running around. There has been enough Spidey clones running around in the '90s.....

Maybe MU Online will take the same road as DC online: give your character any power, make him a hero/villain, and do missions for known heroes/villains.

[quote@Medalionsoldier *sigh* The comics themselves aren't written for younger audiences, why send a game out for them to come running? Send an MMO out for the hardcore fans, where Wolverine can lacerate and Deadpool can blow things up with helucinagenic glee. The whole casual thing is just to make money on an easy franchise...Not that I'm not buying this game, but I'm just saying.
Comics are like any other entertainment medium. There are going to be products that are geared toward a younger audience (Marvel Adventures), products that are geared toward an older audience (MAX comics), and all the rest which will fall somewhere in-between the two. I'm all for them making a game that is straight up for kids as a separate entity from a more "mature" title. I think a lot of older comic fans forget that they got into comics as kids too. Making something for the kids to enjoy is alright by me. [quote@Jc211 Are you serious? Marvel is a business, if they focus on one group it will lower their profits and cause the project to be considered a failure. By making it a game that focuses on cute little characters and is rated E, they will attract younger people while still attracting the super hardcore fans who live, breath, and die Marvel. I dont know where that leaves me though...
They are developing 2 Marvel titles currently.Marvel Super Hero Squad, and Marvel Universe. So I would imagine that would leave you in the second group.

This is good news for me, as I would like to play a Marvel MMO over any other superhero MMO. Making an MMO that stands out these days is difficult though, so I hope there's some innovation.

It's good to know another developer is picking up the marvel MMO license. when i first read about it (and saw the trailers) a few years ago i was hoping to get to play it but then it got cancelled. Now it gets a 2nd chance at life.I don't care how long it takes to come out i just wanna play it and still hope its planned for the pc and 360 like it was before.

[quote@nmolz58 why mini marvels first? thats basically club penguin...but i fthey make a "cityofheroes"esque mmo next i am SO onboard. :venom:
Gazillion has two different studios developing the two games at the same time. I imagine the kiddie game comes out first because it takes less time to develop. Which isn't a bad thing really. You want them to take their time and get it right. They're also working on a Lego MMO if I remember correctly.

I'm going to curb my enthusiasm for this one, although my inner fanboy *squees* at the thought. I'd been waiting for the Marvel MMO from Cryptic for nearly a year before hearing that it had fallen through and Champions would be released instead. The chance to create my very own persona online to interact with my favorite Marvel characters does indeed thrill me (if it will have that capability) but to be honest, until I read or hear about a release date for this...I'll stick with City Of Heroes. If it gets released, count on me getting a subscription and going in to battle in New York, Asgard, and countless other places.Until then, Make Mine Marvel. :x-men:

spazmeer
spazmeer

:cyclops: There is a DC MMO in the works, and Cryptic who was originally working on the Marvel Universe MMO is soon to release Champions Online, based on the pen and paper from HERO games. The DC MMO is being made by Sony, I got my fingers crossed they don't mess it up. So if you need something to do while you wait for MU to come out, there's always Champions Online, not idea when DC Universe Online will come out. And if you really really really can't wait, there's always City Of Heroes which is owned by NCSoft, which was originally developed by Cryptic, who designed the first super hero action massively multiplayer online game.

Greeting this with a resounding shrug. Super Hero Squad / Little Marvels are cute, but I don't know that the license is going to be enough to make it stand out among the other free-to-play item mall games.
