Last Saturday night, Beenox threw a party to end all parties to celebrate both their tenth anniversary making video games and the release of “Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions” at their headquarters in downtown Quebec City. To put it mildly, it was epic.

Spider-Man 2099 runs across the big screen

The developers behind the hit "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions," Beenox rented out a small lot directly across the street from their offices in order to host the more than 3,500 fans that came to celebrate last week's release of the game.

Fans started lining up for the outdoor event more than an hour before it even started, chanting Spider-Man’s name in the moments up to the opening of the gates.

Lined along the area were tents where fans could try out the game for themselves in either the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii versions. Fans of all ages dug the game, and we even saw one woman crouched down with her young son helping him handle the controls. He’d jump with joy every time he managed to get Spider-Man to webswing. It was adorable.

The cutest assemblage of Spider-Men ever

Two fathers also accompanied their young sons decked out in full Spidey outfits and made the rounds with their kids on their shoulders.

After an hour of letting fans mingle and enjoy the game, and the sun finally setting, Beenox turned on their massive projector and fans saw Spidey in all four of his “Shattered Dimensions” iterations climb across the façade of Beenox’s eight-story tall HQ.

Finally, with anticipation reaching a fever pitch, the game itself came onto the screen after an introduction from Dee Brown, the president and founder of Beenox.

Then the Beenox crew started picking names fans had placed in a box for the opportunity to play Spidey on the big screen, and several lucky fans got the chance to show their skills in front of the massive crowd. You know how awesome “Shattered Dimensions” looks on your home TV? Now just imagine it forty feet tall. How cool is that?

A young fan tries his hand
Each fan chosen got a chance to play a level of the game and tackle a boss including Electro, Hobgoblin and Juggernaut on the big screen.

While the game played on the Beenox building, fans couldn’t peel their eyes away from the massive screen. The packed event area was at a standstill as everyone sipped their drinks and ate their food without taking their eyes off the screen.

The party seemed to make a splash in Quebec City, which hadn’t seen anything quite like this before. Many passersby stopped to scope out what was going on, before stepping in to try the game themselves.

Waiting for the game to start on the big screen
Thomas Wilson, Beenox's Creative Director on "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions" spent most of the night up on stage hosting the event, and described his experience as "awesome.

"I've never seen something like that, especially in Quebec City," continued Wilson. "This type of multi-media event is really rare. To get to actually project the game on an eight-floor building is just incredible. We had the music, we had the people behind [the game], we had great sound, beautiful images on the building to actually promote what we put together. It's really the best way to conclude the experience."

Another Spider-fan and dad
Speaking with Dee Brown at the end of the event, it was clear that, for him, Saturday night was really something special for him. “It’s like a dream come true,” he told us.

"The response from the public here in Quebec City has been completely overwhelming. We had people lining up an hour and a half before the site even opened just to get in. After that the site was completely packed with people, with fans wanting to play the game, wanting to play the game on the building, wanting to have their copies of the game signed. I don't know why I was surprised, it's Spider-Man after all. I'm very happy."

We'll have video for you from the event soon, but in the meantime remember to pick up your copy of "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions" for XBOX 360, PlayStation 3 or the Nintendo Wii or DS now it's one game no Spidey-fan can do without!
