Even Wolverine needs a break sometimes. The difference is while you and I might take a nap, Wolverine prefers his breaks to be as action-packed as the rest of his life. So Raven Software senior producer Jeff Poffenbarger and his team created four special rooms for Wolverine to unwind in—available exclusively as a free bonus to those who pre-order the the "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" video game (due out on May 1) from GameStop. In this interlude to our 5-part interview series, Poffenbarger explains exactly how Wolverine—and players—can blow off some steam in the exclusive "Weapon X Arena." Throughout the week, the developers at Raven discuss making the ultimate Wolverine video game. Stay tuned!
And head over to GameStop to pre-order your copy of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" and get exclusive access to the "Weapon X Arena"!
Marvel.com: What's the deal with the additional content for those who pre-order the game at GameStop?
Jeff Poffenbarger: We have an entire level called Weapon X Arena. In this level you have the choice to play one of four rooms: Ladder Challenge (waves of enemies at increasing levels of difficulty), Enemy Test (choose which enemies and how many you want to fight), Environmental Simulator (every interactive art asset used to defeat enemies is available) and one other one I'd rather not spoil right now... Really, there is a good chunk of gameplay here, and you only get it if you pre-order from GameStop.
Marvel.com: Does the room where you select which foes to fight include bosses?
Jeff Poffenbarger: It includes sub-bosses but not the bosses from the boss fights. They require programming that is unique to the environments where you fight them.
Marvel.com: What's your favorite part about the Environmental Simulator?
Jeff Poffenbarger: Wow, there are a few. I'll go with the ground spikes—I'll let you see for yourself why… Obviously, these environmental interactions are all over the game—circuit breakers, spikes, cement mixers, etc. They're all there.
Marvel.com: This sounds a lot like the Danger Room. Why call it the "Weapon X Arena"?
Jeff Poffenbarger: Because marketing didn't like "Wolv-arena." The name was something that was mutually agreed upon by all parties.
