Escaping prison and still scorned by his defeat at the hands of the X-Men, Count Nefaria created the Ani-Men using maggia science in hopes of using their strength and powers to ransom the world. After the Ani-Men siezed the Norad Command Center at Valhalla Base, the Avengers requested the X-Men's aid in ousting Nefaria and the Ani-Men. After a quick battle, the Ani-Men were defeated.
