Anne-Marie Cortez was a mutant who possessed the power of being able to sense other's emotions, known as empathy. Anne-Marie also possessed limited psionic abilities which allowed her to control the minds of others, such as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Delgado and Nance whom she coerced into serving the Acolytes.

Anne-Marie Cortez was one of the first of Magneto's Acolytes. She was wounded by an agent of the international law enforcement agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D. after the Acolytes first sought out Magneto and were taken aboard his oribital base known as Asteroid M. It was this attack that convinced Magneto to lead the Acolytes after their initial meeting. Healed by her brother and fellow Acolyte, Fabian Cortez, Anne-Marie was subsequently killed when Asteroid M was destroyed due to her brother's manipulations.
