The Cosmic Control Rod houses the essence of the Tyannan starship's stardrive. Cybernetic micro-circuitry that allowed Annihilus to harness its vast cosmic energy, firing destructive beams of energy or restructuring matter, as well as siphon other forms of energy in close proximity. The Rod's energy retards his aging, and he rapidly weakens without it.

The Cosmic Control Rod was a very powerful artifact that hail from the Negative Zone. The Rod was said to have housed the essence of a Tyannan starship's stardrive, which means that the Rod had incalculable power and abilities, which the wielder could use to augment his or her strength and power. Annihilus created the Cosmic Rod after donning a knowledge transference helmet and it bestowed the knowledge he needed to master the advanced Tyannan technology for his own cause.
