In the future reality of the 31st Century, Earth-691, Firelord was the last son of the planet Xandar. His time as herald of Galactus was just a shadow of the past, and he became the "Protector of the Universe." While scouring the stars he spotted a solar flare fired into the solar system by Starkhawk who had just witnessed the apparent destruction of his fellow Guardians of the Galaxy at the hands of armored savages. Firelord quickly followed the flare, which led him to his quarry, a race of star-faring conquerors known as the Stark. On the planet of Courg, Firelord engaged Taserface of the Stark in battle and mercilessly set the defiant warrior on fire.
