At a time when
the Skrulls invaded Earth, the goddess
Athena called a meeting with the planet's Elder gods to select a team to combat the shape-shifting aliens. The
Olympians selected the son of
Zeus, Prince of Power,
Hercules. The gods of the South chose the great hero
Ajak, Lord of Flight.
Hodiak and the gods of the North, selected the Slayer of Tanaraq,
Snowbird. The gods of the East chose the August-Star-of-Morning,
Amatsu-Mikaboshi from the Land of the Dead. Hawk-Headed
Horus summoned, he who had fathered the Egyptian gods,
Atum, to join the band of warriors. The last member to round out the group was
Amadeus Cho. Together they took the battle to the doorstep of the
Skrull gods Kly'bn and Sl'gur't, ultimately killing them. Mikaboshi stayed behind when the survivors returned to Earth.
Mikaboshi eventually returned as the Chaos King, determined to revert the universe into a state of nothing, wiping out all existence in the process beginning with various godly pantheons throughout the universe. The more he conquered the stronger he became. The task fell to Hercules to stop Mikaboshi’s rampage, but with nearly all of Earth's heroes defeated almost immediately, Hercules had to reinstate the God Squad. Along with Cho, Hercules chose
Sersi,
Hellstorm,
Venus,
Thor and even the
Silver Surfer and
Galactus to stand with him. Mikaboshi seemed to be one step ahead of them at all times and divided the team across the Earth.
Several members were joined by the
Panther God, hoping the Japanese gods could help in destroying Mikaboshi, but they had already been corrupted. The Panther God allowed the other God Squad members to escape by tackling the entire pantheon singlehandedly. Once reunited, the God Squad made their final stand, and through a combination of power and trickery, Mikaboshi was banished to an identical, empty universe, and his plans to destroy the universe were undone. Hercules then used all his power to repair the damage Mikaboshi had caused.
