Dwight grew up to be a violent gang member. Genetech Corporation approached him to be a part of Psionex with four other individuals. He took the name Impulse after his speed and strength were enhanced. After battling the New Warriors and being defeated, he assisted the Warriors against Terrax. During the battle, he sustained injuries that forced him into a hospital and a wheelchair. He later recovered and rejoined Psionex.
