Mindstar had vast powers of the mind, he was able to read the thoughts of others, control them to do his biding, create elaborate illusions, produce astral shields and projections. He could also open portals to other dimensions. He was protected from the powers of Anubis by the powers of the ankh that he wore, without the ankh he was dependent on Anubis for his powers.

In an attempt to recapture an escaped soul from his realm, Anubis empowered Silas Warden with magical powers of the mind. Silas assumed the identity of Mindstar, before tracking the soul, which had found refuge within the body of District University student Michael Taine, while he was engaging in a mysterious ceremony that has yet to be identified. Mindstar brutally assaulted the young man resulting in his death and allowing the soul to escape once more. Fearing the consequences of his failure, Mindstar hid Taine's body within a wall shaped in the form of an Egyptian Ankh, which kept Anubis unaware of his failure. Mindstar convinced his master that the soul he sought was the darksoul half of Satan's son Daimon Hellstorm.
