Tania Belinsky is the daughter of Dr. Andrei Belinsky, and a citizen of Communist Russia. She was a brilliant neurosurgeon that embraced her country's philosophies, before she learned of the democratic mindset of the United States of America, causing her to have reservation of her prior beliefs. 
She submerged herself into the legend of the Soviet hero known as the Red Guardian and after his apparent death she adopted his identity as the Guardian, and fought for the Soviet Union. On one of her first missions was to stop Professor Phobos, who had been draining the powers of Soviet heroes for years, Tania failed the mission to stop Phobos. Not long after her failed mission, Tania was sought out by Doctor Strange to perform brain surgery on his fallen teammate Kyle Richmond. After the successful surgery Tania had thought of defecting, now that she was in the United States.
