He has the ability to project an invisible force field about his body, the barrier can be stretched to protect others around him. He also has the ability of flight by manipulating gravity. He can survive in the vacuum of space without life support. Ultimus has the ability to manipulate cosmic energy to augment his life force, granting him a longer lifespan and regenerative abilities. He has the capability of projecting cosmic energy as concussive bolts from his hands.

Ultimus is the only Kree Eternal still known to be alive. 3,000 years ago, Ultimus was buried below Stonehenge by the Deviant Lord Tantalus. He remained there until modern times. In that time period he was known as the "Demon Druid" for a short time after being awakened. That was until the Supreme Intelligence told him of his origins, and assigned him the name "Ultimus". The Supreme Intelligence selected him to be a member of Starforce, the team of Kree super-powered beings. The Starforce were a part of an elaborate scheme to give the Supreme Intelligence complete dominances over the Kree Empire.

The Supreme Intelligence reclaimed leadership of the Empire, by assassinating the then Kree rulers General Ael-Dan and General Dar-Benn. The murderous assassin Deathbird of the mighty Shi'ar Empire was secretly in the employ of the Supreme Intelligence to perform this task. This would allow him to install the Starforce as an official Kree army. The Starforce arrested the Avengers and Deathbird. A short time later Ronan, the most prominent of the Kree judges known as the Accusers, was added to the Starforce’s ranks. He accompanied Korath, Shatterax, Supremor and Ultimus to Shi’ar space to assassinate the Shi’ar ruler Lilandra; however, another team of Avengers were in negotiations with the Shi’ar and they helped the Shi’ar Imperial Guard defeat the Starforce. Ultimus and the Starforce were to be executed by Lilandra of the Shi'ar until she discovered that her longtime enemy the Skrulls, had infiltrated her council. The Starforce was spared their fate of execution.

As a member of Starforce, Ultimus aided the Underground Legion in an assault upon Tantalus at Armechadon, using his powers to track Tantalus there. Ultimately, Ultimus was able to defeat Lord Tantalus with the help of legion member Blackwulf.
