The Primordial personification of the sky, Ouranos nightly covered the Earth and coupled with Gaea, the Earth Mother, producing several of Olympus' first races, including the cyclopes, one eyed giants notorious for their usually stubborn dispositions but renowned expert smiths and craftsmen; followed by the centimanes ("hundred hands," aka Hecatonchires), giants with many heads and tentacle-like arms. Repulsed, Ouranos banished the cyclopes and the centimanes to the netherworld Tartarus. Offended by the treatment of her children, Gaea persuaded their third race of offspring, the Titans to overthrow their father. The youngest Titan, Cronus, led the others to ambush Ouranus in his sleep and delivered the killing wound with a Gaea-granted flint sickle.
