Clifton Shallot was a bio-mutation expert and a professor at Empire State University. He started a vulture wing making course, but when his course was canceled Clifton snapped. He donned the Vulture costume and mutated his appearance including his face, teeth, fingernails; and wings also came out of his skin for a short time. The only two people that new of his secret was his lab assistant Catherine Murrow and her roommate Gloria Jenkins. Mary Jane Watson witnessed Clifton murderer Gloria, and when Clifton learned of this Mary Jane became his next target. Clifton found out that his mutation was reversible, but he ran out of the chemicals that he needed so he stole them. Spider-Man found a clue that led to the identity of this vulture, then tracked him down. When Spider-Man and Clifton battled, Clifton lost his powers. Spider-Man force fed the antidote to Clifton, and Clifton fainted upon returning to normal. He was sentenced to serve time in prison for committing murder.
