The Black Dawn was a secret cabal of extra-dimensional ninjas. At some point in time Cable's sinsei Shin had some sort of interaction with them. According to their unnamed leader she has taken up the task of training an apprentice to confront the Black Dawn. Learning that Shin had found her newest student the unnamed leader sent his minions to scour a thousand realities until they found this pupil.
