Created from a strange meteor containing an ore called the Starstone, Merlin forged this sword along with the Obsidian Dagger and enchanted it with his magic. The sword was forged for the First Black Knight, Sir Percy of Scandia. However, with all the killings Percy did with the blade, a curse was born from it. The Ebony Blade had been passed down from one Black Knight to the next, until it reached the hands of Dane Whitman, a descendant of Sir Percy.
Many people have wielded the Ebony Blade, including Eober Garrington (Black Knight during the Crusades), Valkyrie, Namor (used it to "kill" Marrina), Ares, Bloodwraith (Sean Dolan), Proctor, Sersi, and the Black Panther.
