Born a mutant, the Gibbon originally had tried to become Spider-Man's partner, only to be met with laughter from the Web-Slinger. He then had his powers augmented by an herb broth given to him be Kraven the Hunter. He lashed out, tired of being ridiculed all his life. He was defeated by Spider-Man and wasn't seen for a while.
Gibbon reappeared and helped Spider-Man defeat the Beetle, but then joined The Spot, Kangaroo and Grizzly in forming the Spider-Man Revenge Squad.
