The Obliterator existed in the universe for over five billions years. By a strange chance he discovered that he was immortal, this gave his life a new meaning. He began tracking and killing all the people of his species, leaving him as the only surviving member of his species. His obsession with death and destruction caused him to create a weapon that would help him to complete his task. This weapon utilized the very energies of creation to destroy his selected targets. The Obliterator began to scourer the universe looking for things to destroy. His travels would soon bring him into contact with the Gardener a member of a race superhuman beings known as the Elders of the Universe. The Gardener informed the Obliterator that he too was an Elder of the Universe.
