bio_text = The Maggia is an international crime syndicate that is the world’s most powerful organization dedicated to conventional crime (as opposed to subversive activities). Originating in southern Europe, the Maggia spread throughout non-Communist Europe and the Americas. Its presence in the United States first came public attention in the 1890’s, and the Maggia’s wide spread bootlegging of illegal liquor during the Prohibition Era has become legendary. Today the Maggia controls most of illegal gambling, loan-sharking, and narcotics trade in the United States, as well as many legal gambling casinos in Atlantic City, New Jersey and Las Vegas. It also has great influence within various labor unions, and controls politicians on every level of government. Especially in recent years ''(1980s)'', the Maggia has invested many of its illegal gains into legitimate business. However, the Maggia enforces a strict code of secrecy among its members, and does not hesitate to punish betrayals and failures with death. Often the Maggia marks one of its members for execution by having a Maggioso grasp the intended victim by the chin in the so-called “Maggia touch”.

The Maggia is not monolithic organization but is instead a coalition of many virtually independent groups known as “families”. The leading members of each family are usually connected through familial or marital ties. The Maggia also has affiliations with other criminal groups such as the Morgan organization in New York City’s Harlem. Several “families” are based in the New York City area. Three of these families have come to pre-eminence.

===The Silvermane Family===
Its leader is [[Silvermane|Silvio “Silvermane” Manfredi]], one of the last of the legendary gangsters who came to notoriety during the 1920s and 1930s. This group conducts its activities among traditional Maggia lines, and is heavily involved with narcotics trade. Silvermane uses unusual scientific means only for personal goal of staving his own death, and not for the “family’s” activities. Although Silvermane has a son, Joseph, once known as [[Manfredi, Joseph|Blackwing]] (member of the [[Circus of Crime]]), his successor as family head will probably be his longtime rival, top Maggia lawyer Caesar “Big C” Cicero.

===The Hammerhead Family===
Dominated by middle-aged Maggia traditionalists, this family first became notorious under unusual circumstances. Perhaps in imitation of the Nefaria family, its leader, known as the “Top Man”, outfitted his family hit men with costumes and advanced weaponry. He then gained ownership of the [[Baxter Building]] through questionable means, thinking that doing so would somehow give him legal title to the technology of the building’s framed occupants, the [[Fantastic Four]]. The Fantastic Four defeated and captured the “Top Man”, his claims to owning Baxter Building were dismissed by the courts, and the “Top Man” was assassinated by order of his own family. The family then sought a new leader, who would direct operations along thoroughly traditional lines, and chose a newcomer known only as [[Hammerhead]], an amnesia victim whose new ruthless persona had been shaped by his love for gangster films. Hammerhead uses methods of Prohibition Era, including gang wars, although will use advanced technology for personal ends, such as exoskeleton that magnifies his strength.

===The Nefaria Family===
This group bears little resemblance to the rest of the Maggia. The late Italian nobleman, [[Count Nefaria|Count Luchino Nefaria]], a scientist genius, was the world’s most powerful Maggia leader until his initial defeat by Avengers. Afterwards he moved to his base of operations to the New York City area, and then imprisoned Washington, D.C. within an impenetrable force-dome and held it for ransom. After his defeat and capture, his daughter Giuletta, also known as [[Madame Masque|Whitney Frost]], succeeded him as a family head and led an unsuccessful attempt to capture the advanced weaponry of [[Iron Man (Anthony Stark)|Tony Stark]]. She was eventually succeeded by a costumed criminal, the [[Masked Maruader]], who demanded complete control of New York City or else he would detonate a nuclear device there. After his capture, the family again apparently cam under control of Whitney Frost, by then known as Madame Masque. Contrary to standard Maggia practice, the Nefaria family, principally consisting of men under 40, has employed futuristic weaponry and even robots (like the [[Dreadnoughts]]), as well as costumed super-powered agents ([[Unicorn (Milos Masaryk)|Unicorn]], [[Whiplash (Mark Scarlotti)|Whiplash]], [[Gladiator (Melvin Potter)|Gladiator]], etc.), and has launched open attacks on society. Its leader is always known as “big M”.

Various criminals have attempted to unify the Americas East Coast’s independent criminal groups so as to compete with the Maggia domination of organized crime. The most successful of these has been the [[Kingpin]].

Hey Acotilletta, good launch for the Puma, and thanks for catching the dangling sentence I left behind as I was being called for dinner and hastily hit "Save". I had a couple of formatting edits you should note for future profiles. Identity: short and sweet - "Secret" - "Publicly known" - "No dual identity" - if secret, succinctly mentioning who does knows the secret is OK. Groups: no need to list the members of the group. If there's an Outlaws team page someday, it'll list the members. "Spiderman" is spelled "Spider-Man" and when referencing comic issues, use the year (and therefore can drop the oft-confusing "Volume" numbers). In the history section, when Fireheart bought the Bugle, his campaign didn't really do to much to help Spider-Man (it was a bit over the top), and Peter asked him to end the overexposure. I have posted it again, and I looked over the verb tenses, and I think I got them all so that it reads the same the whole way through. There are three versions of Carron so please mention which version you are talking about by name instead of roman numeral. Carrion (Malcolm McBride), Carrion (Miles Warren clone) or Carrion (William Allen).<BR>
You also mispelt Demogoblin by spelling it DemoGoblin in one area of the profile.<BR>
Because of that, I can't approve it. However you are more than welcome to resubmit it after correcting those mistakes.<BR>

There is nothing wrong with the quality of the images you scanned and uploaded. However because they are not wide enough, the system automatically streches the width of the image to meet the standard 442 width, which then causes the image to become low quality. Feel free to upload the images you have uploaded for the Asgardians, but just place them on a background that has a width of 442 pixels.<BR>
Also since the profiles are not long, shortening the height of the images would look better as well instead of having a long image with only one paragraph of History text to scroll down to read.<BR>
Images that are 442 (width) x 350 (length) looks better. The length is not required, but as I said, it just looks better. The width is the important thing to remember about images though.<BR>

Hey, Dragyn Wulf. Yes you're right, I do take some of the history from OHotMU, but only to cover back history that I do not have since I don't own those comic issues, but there are a lot of profiles that I do write on my own using the comics that I do own that include the first appearance of a character to the present. I usually take pics for those profiles from the issues (whether it be comics or OHotMU) and say what sources I take them from in the summary. I didn't know I had to put where I got the info from in both summary boxes, but will do so from now on.
If you would like to check out some of the profiles that I wrote totally on my own (using only comic issues) you can check some entries like [[Earth Force]], [[Earth Lord]], [[Skyhawk]], [[Wind Warrior]], [[Stardust]], [[Dark Gods]], [[Dinah Soar]], [[In-Betweener]] (nice pic, by the way), [[Leather Boy]], [[Monkey Joe]], and [[Tippy Toe]]. I could name more, but I don't think you want to look over all my entries. If you do, let me know and I'll give you the other bios I've posted. I just feel that a character's history shouldn't be incomplete, and I don't own every single comic ever written. Not to mention the factual stat info on the characters can only come from a handook because I am not recreating a character, but posting what Marvel writer's have already created. I understand you're not saying anything bad, but if you would like me to only use the comic issues I have now for reference, then that's what I'll do, and someone can fill in the earlier histories at a later date. Onto the topic at hand. I think you are misunderstanding what I am saying. Taking the text and then rewriting it to look like your own text is what this is about. And example of what I am talking about:<BR>

Just write/copy the text from the OHotMU and site your source instead of changing/rewording the text to look like your own work.<BR>
If you don't have an issue to referance, then you don't have the issue. Not everyone is going to have every comic about every character. If you have the OHotMU to referance then you can use it, just list it as your source without rewriting the text to look like your own work. I didn't mean to gut anything. I was looking it over and found some grammatical mistakes and I went to correct it both on the site and my saved text on my hard drive, and I guess when I went to copy and paste it that I pasted the wrong version back onto the site. I know that Rebecca isn't his wife. I just forgot to remove it from my saved document before I pasted what I thought was the "better grammar" entry. I've fixed the problem with my document, now I'll just fix the grammar on the page. Thanks for double checking. I did it so fast that I forgot to do it. Didn't mean to get you confused.
