The prophetess Volla foretold that on the day of Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods, the Midgard Serpent would rise from the sea and partake in Asgard's destruction. According to her prophecy, Thor and the Serpent would slay each other in battle, Thor first killing the Serpent with his hammer but dying from the Serpent's poison after taking nine steps backward. Volla died after making known her prophecies of Ragnarok. However, if one is brave and powerful enough to journey into the realm of the dead, a prophecies may still be obtained from her. Because of the events of Ragnarok, Volla, even though she is deceased already, is believed to have suffered the same fate as the rest of the Asgardians since the realm of Hel was presumably destroyed.
