When the Scarlet Witch became desperate to have children, she used her reality-altering powers to create twin boys from two lost souls. Scarlet Witch and Vision named their children Thomas and William and lived normal lives until Mephisto claimed the two souls as his own. When the Scarlet Witch used her powers to recreate the world after the House of M event, she inadvertently recreated both Thomas and William as well. However instead of recreating them as her children, they ended up as the children of other parents. William ended up as the son of the Kaplans family while Thomas ended up as the son of the Shepard family. The two boys had no idea of their true past until Super-Skrull told them enough information to have Vision verify and research the information.
