'Guardians of the Galaxy' #1 Promises No One Is Safe from Grootfall
A new trailer for 'Guardians of the Galaxy' #1 sends Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Nebula, and Mantis to the Manifold Territories, an uncharted, lawless area of Marvel space.
Welcome to the Manifold Territories.
In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1, Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, and Kev Walker will send the team into an uncharted, lawless area of Marvel space filled with never-before-visited planets and undiscovered alien species. As Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Nebula, and Mantis attempt to outrun the tragedy of Grootfall, a mysterious phenomenon involving their beloved teammate, they will find themselves at a terrible crossroads that leaves the Folds' fate hanging in the balance. Will they be able to find redemption in their own heroism and humanity on the bleakest frontier, or will they fade into the dark, eternally unforgiven?
The new GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1 trailer—which features never-before-seen artwork from the series—recalls the heroic legend of the Guardians of the Galaxy, who "stood for the defenseless" and "gave voice to the voiceless." But something is wrong with a member of their family, and the Marvel Universe may never be the same. No planet is safe from Grootfall!
"Welcome to a whole new era for the Guardians of the Galaxy, riding like mad through an endless alien dust storm of sun-soaked tragedy, intense violence, and deeply dysfunctional heroes,” Lanzing said in a statement. “The optimistic peacekeepers that defeated the reborn Olympian Gods and overcame The Last Annihilation have fallen about as far as they possibly could—and now Peter Quill and what remains of his found family will have to fight like hell in a new western-fueled frontier to find a scrap of forgiveness. After all, the Guardians are a fire—and a fire only ends one way."
"These characters have been psychedelic super heroes, lovable smugglers, and cosmic war fighters who are living under constant chaos. This was a chance to take them somewhere completely different," Lanzing told CBR. "So, the Western became a way for us to say that the tone of this book is going to be different from the Guardians books that you're familiar with, and it allows us to get a little crazier."
"I think fans can also get excited about the structure of our run," Kelly added. "Initially, we're popping off five individual issues. This is the story of every week coming to a new town and discovering the trauma, drama, and pain, then engaging with that and not necessarily resolving it in the best of ways, but stepping into it in their own way and then coming out the other side."
