'Marvels' Will Celebrate Its 25th Anniversary with 20 Variant Covers

Back in 1994, MARVELS took comic book fans on a nostalgic journey with its four-issue miniseries written by Kurt Busiek with art by Alex Ross in the book that put the latter on the Marvel map. As seen through the eyes of photographer Phil Sheldon, MARVELS told the origin stories of Marvel Super Heroes in a way that set itself apart in the mid-1990s. Ross's stunning artwork was a departure from the way comics generally looked throughout the decade, instead taking on a more painterly, vintage look -- all designed to make Marvel's classic characters appear as close to real as possible.
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of MARVELS, 20 comics will feature variant covers this spring that will pay tribute to Ross's work and the old-fashioned look of classic comics.
