Meet the Ultimates, the Heroes of the New Ultimate Universe
From Iron Lad to Hawkeye, meet the heroes challenging the Maker’s iron grip over the Ultimate Universe.
Every universe needs its heroes, and in the new Ultimate Universe, the super hero network known as the Ultimates protects the world from the Maker's machinations.
The new Ultimate Universe, Earth-6160, continues to grow with new heroes and villains, each putting a unique twist on their iconic counterparts from the main Marvel Universe, Earth-616.
While many of these heroes share similar alter egos and appearances as the Avengers of the main Marvel Universe, their circumstances could not be more different. This universe is ruled by the Maker and his Council, who worked tirelessly to stamp out heroism before it could ever exist.
These Ultimates have risen to defend their nascent world and challenge the authority of the villains who control it. With the roster fully assembled, here are all the heroes in Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri's ULTIMATES.
TONY STARK, AKA IRON LAD
The de facto leader of the Ultimates, the teenaged Tony Stark is still very much a prodigious technological genius. In this universe, Howard Stark and Obadiah Stane led Stark/Stane, one of the biggest mega-corporations in the world. In the wake of Stane’s death, Tony helped Howard take a stand as Iron Man.
In the armor, Howard fought against the Maker’s Council that secretly controlled the world. He was presumed dead after fighting Kang in ULTIMATE INVASION (2023) #4.
Tony took on the super hero moniker Iron Lad and followed in his father’s heroic footsteps, working with Reed Richards to undo the tampering caused by the Maker and his allies.
Together, Iron Lad and Richards began assembling the heroes diminished or discarded by the Maker. At the top of their list? Captain America and Thor. They started building a team that would take on the Maker’s Council directly in ULTIMATE UNIVERSE (2023) #1.
REED RICHARDS, AKA DOOM
As the Reed Richards of the previous Ultimate Universe, the Maker took a particular interest in destroying the life of his counterpart in this new Ultimate Universe.
As this world’s Reed prepared to investigate a cosmic storm with his friends Ben Grimm, Susan Storm, and Johnny Storm, the Maker tampered with Reed’s calculations. This led to the deaths of the Storm siblings and Reed’s public disgrace, ensuring the Fantastic Four would never exist in this world.
Still obsessed with tormenting his alternate universe counterpart, the Maker abducted and tortured Reed at his headquarters in Latveria. The Maker welded a metal mask to Reed’s face and dubbed him this universe’s Doom, a cruel joke alluding to their rivalry with Doctor Doom.
As he received limited exposure to the cosmic rays from his failed space flight, Doom can only elongate himself in a reduced capacity compared to Mister Fantastic, with this process causing him physical pain whenever he tries.
STEVE ROGERS, AKA CAPTAIN AMERICA
Similar to his counterpart on Earth-616, Steve Rogers of Earth-6160 fought against the Axis Powers during World War II as a super-soldier. Captain America was flung into the Arctic Circle in a last-ditch effort to save the day, where he remained frozen in ice for decades.
As the Maker changed history to prevent the emergence of heroes, he failed to locate Captain America. However, Iron Lad and Doom reviewed the Maker’s files and found the super-soldier preserved in a cryogenic state.
Emerging from the ice, Captain America found himself in a world where fascism and totalitarianism still thrived, radicalizing him into even more of more revolutionary figure than he already was.
THOR
To prevent Thor from meddling on Earth, the Maker preemptively helped Loki seize the throne of Asgard, leading to the destruction of the Bifrost Bridge and Thor’s imprisonment. The God of Mischief assigned Sif to personally watch over Thor and ensure his continued captivity over false charges of treason.
When Iron Lad and Doom traveled to Asgard with a ship designed to traverse the cosmos, they successfully convinced Thor to join their cause. The God of Thunder reclaimed Mjolnir and left his prison in ULTIMATE UNIVERSE (2023) #1.
SIF
Like her counterpart on Earth-616, the Lady Sif of Earth-6160 is one of the most formidable warriors in all of Asgard and a venerated defender of the realm. When the crowned King of Asgard Loki declared Thor an enemy of the state, Sif maintained her allegiance to her kingdom and agreed to serve as Thor’s jailer.
When Thor freed himself and joined Iron Lad and Doom, Sif accompanied the Asgardian to Earth to keep a watchful eye on him as part of her sworn duty. While Sif technically remains Thor’s warden, she genuinely cares for her charge.
Charli Ramsey, AKA HAWKEYE
When Iron Lad left Clint Barton a recorded message accompanied by archery gear, the marksman walked away from his destiny. Charli Ramsey, a member of the Oglala Band of the Lakota Nation, found the gear and message intended for Clint and decided to take the mantle of Hawkeye themselves.
Roxxon Energy Partners, a powerful mega-corporation benefitting from the Maker’s status quo, oppressed and exploited Charli’s community. In ULTIMATES (2024) #5, Charli used their advanced archery gear and skills to target Roxxon facilities around the country, disrupting the company’s malicious activities.
This gained the attention of Captain America, who confronted Hawkeye during a raid. The pair then worked together to defeat the Roxxon Cleanup Crew. This team-up resulted in Captain America and Hawkeye growing to trust each other, with Hawkeye joining the Ultimates immediately thereafter.
AMERICA CHAVEZ
One of the Ultimates’ first missions involved attacking the White House, which was controlled by the villainous Midas. This armored enemy helped the Maker topple the United States in the 1960s, setting the stage for the council that would rule the world.
The team targeted a secret energy source in the White House’s basement that provided power to Midas’ portion of the continent. Little did the Ultimates know that the power source was none other than America Chavez. In ULTIMATES (2024) #2, Wasp freed America while Captain America fought Midas, ending the reign of one of the Maker’s most powerful allies.
Hailing from an alternate future, the America Chavez of Earth-6160 gained her powers from exposure to massive amounts of cosmic radiation. As one of the strongest members of the Ultimates, America bends the laws of physics to restore justice to a world sorely lacking it.
Lejori Joena Zakaria, AKA SHE-HULK
On Earth-6160, Bruce Banner conducted gamma bomb experiments in the Pacific Ocean. The radiation fallout from these tests totally transformed all living beings in the impacted radius, resulting in the creation of Monster Island. The radiation contaminated the populated island and its entire community.
With gamma radiation coursing through her veins, a young girl named Lejori Joena Zakaria grew up to become this universe’s She-Hulk. As She-Hulk, Lejori possesses incredible superhuman strength and endurance, as well as an accelerated healing factor.
An advocate for her upended community, She-Hulk defends the many locals painfully afflicted by Bruce Banner’s cruel experiments. In ULTIMATES (2024) #3, She-Hulk agreed to join the Ultimates in exchange for Iron Lad healing her land from the widespread fallout of the gamma bomb.
JIM HAMMOND, AKA HUMAN TORCH
Jim Hammond was one of Captain America’s closest friends and allies during World War II. An advanced android that can set himself ablaze, Hammond took on the nickname the Human Torch.
In this universe, the Human Torch killed Adolf Hitler in WWII and helped bring about an end to the global conflict. After the war however, the Maker captured the android and tampered with his body to prevent him from using his powers.
Years later, Captain America led the Ultimates to rescue the Human Torch from Damage Control. Iron Lad and Doom repaired and restored Jim’s body in ULTIMATES (2024) #5. Back in action, the Human Torch resumed his friendship with Steve Rogers as the two old friends adjust to life in the 21st century.
Hank Pym & Janet Van Dyne, AKA GIANT MAN & THE WASP
Married couple Janet Van Dyne and Hank Pym topped the Maker’s list of targets to prevent the rise of super heroes. As such, the Maker inflicted permanent brain damage on Hank that significantly diminished his genius intellect.
In the aftermath, the couple ran a pest extermination business in New Jersey. That was until Iron Lad recruited them with stealth suits and samples of Pym Particles. Taking on the destinies the Maker tried to deprive them of, they joined the Ultimates as Giant Man and the Wasp.
After meeting the Ultimates, Captain Britain and his army of giants attacked the burgeoning group in ULTIMATES (2024) #1. The couple both suited up and leapt into action.
Using the Pym Particles, Janet can shrink down to the size of an insect and wears a super-suit that accommodates her fluctuating size changes. Her suit is also fitted with wings that allow her to fly at high speeds. Contrastingly, Hank uses these particles to take on a towering height, employing his newfound size and strength to squash the attacking enemies.
