The History of Spider-Man: 2015
Peter Parker deals with the Spider-Verse, Secret Wars and life as a billionaire!
For over 50 years, Spider-Man has been a sensational standout in the Marvel Universe and the web-slinger is now back on the silver screen once again in Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War”! In celebration of his memorable history, we present Spidey’s spectacular step-by-step story…
One of Spider-Man’s greatest foes, Carnage, became “inverted” in AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS #4 due to the Red Skull’s machinations, as well as Captain America and other heroes. In AXIS #5, Spidey escaped his friends’ evil actions, but Apocalypse showed up to make things worse. The webslinger helped gather former villains to save the day in AXIS #6, and he joined with Deadpool to stop Apocalypse’s “gene bomb” in AXIS #7. The heroic Carnage actually stopped the bomb in AXIS #8, while Spidey fought the X-Men until everything could be put back the way it should be in AXIS #9.
Alternate universe Spider-heroes sought out Spidey in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #9 to beg his help in stopping Morlun and the Inheritors from killing them all. Our hero went to the Great Web to hand-pick a team in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #10, which included Otto Octavius, the Superior Spider-Man, who quickly wanted to take over the group. The wallcrawler challenged Otto in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #11, and after making a pact with Spider-Gwen, went toe-to-toe with Morlun in battle.
Multiple versions of Spider-Man clashed with the villains to gather the Spider-Totems in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #12, but the tide turned with the inclusion of an Uncle Ben Spider-Man in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #13, and Otto’s key to victory over the Inheritors in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #14. Later, Otto picked a fight with everyone in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #15, but Peter Parker set him right.
Spidey assisted the Fantastic Four versus the Quiet Man in FANTASTIC FOUR #643, a twisted version of the Avengers in FANTASTIC FOUR #644, and the Psycho-Man in FANTASTIC FOUR #645. Peter’s Parker Industries vied with Alchemax to bid on building a super-prison in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #16, Spidey fought the Ghost in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #17, and lost his building in the battle in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #18.
After a scrap with Tombstone in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #16.1, the webslinger joined with the Wraith to investigate a mystery that led into a gang war in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #17.1, the return of the Black Cat in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #18.1, a clash with the Circus of Crime in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #19.1, and big, violent misunderstanding with the Wraith in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #20.1.
As Spidey’s universe prepared for an incursion by another universe in SECRET WARS #1, he boarded Reed Richards’ “life raft” with other heroes to escape the cataclysm. Seemingly years later, the raft opened up on a planet called “Battleworld” in SECRET WARS #2 and our hero learned its ‘god” was none other than Doctor Doom. Spider battled another group stranded there, the Cabal, in SECRET WARS #4, until Dr. Strange scattered him and his teammates to the far corners of the planet when Doom took notice.
Peter, along with fellow Spider-Man Miles Morales, sought the planet’s power source in SECRET WARS #6, but found the all-powerful Molecule Man instead. The final war with Doom’s forces kicked off in SECRET WARS #8, and after his defeat by Reed Richards in SECRET WARS #9, Peter welcomed Miles to his rebuilt universe as the second official Spider-Man.
Now a billionaire from “webware” he created, Peter Parker swung into battle as Spidey with his new Spider-Mobile in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1 against the Zodiac, who then returned in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #2 to challenge our hero again with a scheme to steal his tech from him.
