Can You Answer the Marvel Question on Last Night’s ‘JEOPARDY!’?

Contestants were challenged to name this hero of the Marvel underworld...

It seems like the entire world of pop culture has been talking about three things lately: Marvel Studios' "Avengers: Endgame", some TV show about dragons, and the amazing run currently happening on Jeopardy! by contestant James Holzhauer.

After 19 episodes of Jeopardy, he has won over $1.5 million dollars and on the May 1, 2019 episode of Jeopardy!, tied the record for the second longest winning streak on the show. He appears to be the first contestant in over ten years to pose a threat to the record of Ken Jennings who in 2004 won Jeopardy! 74 times and earned over $2.5 million. On the May 1 episode, keen-eyed Marvelites might have noticed that Jeopardy!'s clue crew dropped a clue to which Marvel fans knew the answer to. In the category of "Vampire-Pourri", the $800 clue revealed:

Jeopardy Marvel Clue

Of course, we all know the answer to this clue is none other than:

BLADE

Blade

Created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, and first appearing in 1972's THE TOMB OF DRACULA #10, Blade is a dedicated warrior against the dark world of vampires. Born from a mother who was affected by vampirism, Blade has super human abilities thanks to becoming part Vampire himself after a run in, and a bite, from Morbius, the Living Vampire. Blade is the most lethal Daywalker, has keen martial arts skills and most vampire strengths (and none of their weaknesses). He is on an eternal mission to eradicate the world of dark beasts who look to destroy innocent life. Most recently, Blade could be seen in the pages of AVENGERS where he's been given a full membership on the Avengers roster as seen in the pages of AVENGERS #12, written by Jason Aaron with art by Ed McGuiness and Cory Smith.

The clue on Jeopardy! makes a reference to the 1998 film "Blade" starring Wesley Snipes in the lead role along with Stephen Dorff. After earning more than $130 million at the box office, this first movie spawned two sequels. As we look back on over 20 years of movies based on comic books, fans remember "Blade"as the first of this modern age of comic book movies.

Those who watched this episode of Jeopardy! saw that while current champion Jame Holzhauer dominated the game, he did NOT get this clue correct as he was beat to the buzzer by Imar Dachunha, a Business Systems Analyst from Orlando, Florida, the home of Walt Disney World.

Everyone at Marvel Entertainment who are fans of Alex Trebek and Jeopardy! were delighted to see one of the many heroes and characters from the Marvel Universe featured on the show and we'll be glued to our televisions to watch James Holzhauer continue his victory streak. We hope to see more Marvel clues on Jeopardy! in shows to come!
