WandaVision is now streaming on Disney+.
What’s the best part of Halloween? It’s not the costumes, or the decorations, or the fun-sized candy. The best part of Halloween is the BIG candy — you know, those full-size bars which are the prize get of any neighborhood.
Episode 6 of Marvel Studios’ WandaVision send Billy and Tommy, plus Wanda Maximoff and Pietro tagging along, out into Westview to go trick or treating. Some spooky mischief ensues, of course, along the way to securing the ultimate prize: giant candy bars.
Even though Halloween is still far away for everyone not living in Westview, that doesn’t mean now isn’t the perfect time to whip up a some oversized candy to snack on, while watching WandaVision, of course.
INGREDIENTS
- 11.5 oz plus 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- cooking spray, parchment paper or plastic wrap
- 1 cup sugar
- 14 oz marshmallow fluff
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 cup cream
- 6 ounces nuts of choice (I used hazelnuts because we’re going for extra fancy – and that’s what anyone giving away full-sized candy bars must use!)
- 1 cup store-bought caramel sauce (it's in the ice cream section)
DIRECTIONS
STEP ONE: Set up a double boiler over medium heat and add the 11.5 ounces chocolate chips... stir until melted and uniform being careful not to let any water in to the chocolate.
STEP TWO: While the chocolate is melting, spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and line with parchment paper or plastic wrap. The cooking spray actually helps the parchment/plastic to stick uniformly to the walls of the loaf.
STEP THREE: Once the chocolate is melted, smear it all over the sides and bottom of the loaf pan and place in the freezer to harden. You can turn off the heat on your double boiler, but don't clean it up, we've got more chocolate to melt.
STEP FOUR: In a large skillet outfitted with a candy thermometer, combine the sugar, fluff, peanut butter, and cream, and stir continuously over medium heat until it reaches 238 degrees. It takes a while, is prone to burning at high heat, and will burn you, so be patient and careful.
STEP FIVE: Once at 238, carefully dump the mix into the pan and put it back in the freezer to set. Wait about 30 minutes. Drop a nut on to the marshmallow mix.. if the nut sinks, keep chilling the pan. If the nut stays on top, add the rest of the nuts along with the caramel sauce and return to the freezer for another hour.
STEP SIX: Melt the remaining chocolate in the double boiler and slather this on top of the hardened caramel/nut mixture. Chill until chocolate is hard and no sides of the pan feel warm to the touch.
STEP SEVEN: Once you are ready to attack this thing, carefully invert the pan and tug the parchment or plastic from the pan. Remove the parchment and plastic from the chocolate and allow to thaw in the refrigerator. It's kind of a balancing act-- the more thawed it is the easier it is to cut, but the messier it can be. Good luck!
