PLATFORMS

The upcoming original, action-adventure spectacle will release simultaneously for PlayStation 4, Xbox One X, Stadia, and PC.

STORY

Marvel's Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. Players begin their journey as Kamala Khan and learn the origins of her extraordinary powers.

The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation at the hands of Taskmaster and his mercenaries.

While the super-powered ensemble is traditionally celebrated as a group of heroes, after the traumatic events of A-Day, they're blamed for the tragedy and painted as villains. The Avengers disband, and Heroes are outlawed.

As the story expands, Kamala plays an essential role in bringing the disbanded Avengers back together. As each Super Hero rejoins the roster, players must master their unique abilities, rebuild and customize the team to face increasingly evolving threats only the Avengers together can defeat.

To ensure a heroic experience for all players, Marvel’s Avengers narrative will progress over multiple years with every new post release Super Hero and region delivered to players at no additional cost if you own the core game.

ROSTER

The Avengers team is comprised of heroes Captain America (Jeff Schine), Iron Man (Nolan North), Hulk (Troy Baker lends his voice to Bruce Banner, Darin De Paul is behind Hulk's larger-than-life voice, while stuntman Hawk Walts gives Hulk his unstoppable moves), Black Widow (Laura Bailey) and Thor (Travis Willingham).

Kamala Khan (Sandra Saad) emerges as a beacon of hope for the Avengers, whom she has idolized all her life.

Post-launch characters will come at no additional cost.

ANTAGONISTS

In the five years since, a new evil threat has emerged: AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics). During the events of A-Day, many people were affected by the Terrigen mist from the reactor explosion. AIM feels that those affected must be cured.

A growing public sentiment is shaped that Super Heroes are dangerous and if left unchecked, they could wreak more havoc than good. AIM wants to define mankind’s future with reason, with logic. AIM believes that science, not Super Heroes, will save the world. This devout purity to science will make the world a safer, stronger place; which also means Super Heroes can’t be left to roam freely.

On the PlayStation Blog, Noah Hughes, studio creative director at Crystal Dynamics, revealed, "Due to this doctrine of science, AIM has mobilized an AI force to protect the rest of us against super powered individuals while claiming to research a cure for those affected by A-Day."

Classic AIM characters from the comic books that will be recreated through the Crystal Dynamics lens include the Keeper (their version of Beekeeper), their version of Synthoid, and the all-new Monotronic Exo. This is how AIM stands toe-to-toe as humans versus Super Heroes. It’s up to players to unravel the AIM conspiracy, reassemble the Avengers, and save the Earth.

GAMEPLAY MISSIONS

Marvel’s Avengers offers players a truly rich experience, with a combination of Hero Missions and Warzone Missions (as seen at the top of the article).

Hero Missions are single-player only and are part of the overall Campaign. These Hero Missions are designed to showcase each hero’s unique abilities as you reassemble them to your growing roster.

Warzone Missions can be played solo or with a group of up to four players as any Hero in your roster. Each mission dynamically scales based on the team size and player level.

Players can head right into the co-op missions that exist outside of the campaign after completing the introductory A-Day battle. Hughes cautioned, "The caveat there is that you'll be exposed to spoilers from the campaign."

Your character’s progress will persist across different play modes, so you can jump between the campaign and co-op missions whenever you want without missing a beat.

Another bonus: you and a friend can team up online, and the game will scale the difficulty to accommodate.

SUPER HERO CUSTOMIZATIONS

Players in Marvel’s Avengers will also be able to customize Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a number of ways. While each Super Hero will play true to their unique power sets, each will have the flexibility to play different based on the gear you equip and the skills you enable. Each hero has dynamic combo systems, Heroic moves, an intrinsic ability, and signature move sets to unlock and customize.

As you gain levels, you’ll be able to purchase new abilities via skill trees. Though many of these skills will upgrade your attack power, you’ll also be making choices between different build types.

There is a vast amount of Gear unique to each Super Hero in Marvel’s Avengers, each with its own rarity, stats, and Perks to unlock. Players can dive deep into min-maxing their hero build through Skills and Gear. Players can switch out Gear and choose which pieces suit individual playstyles as new, better Gear is discovered or earned, allowing them to further tune their playstyle.

Perks are unique modifiers tied to Gear that augment or enhance how each Super Hero plays — examples of Perks are the ability to unleash an AOE Burst upon taking damage or faster recharging Heroics. In addition, Branded Gear Sets, which enable more custom builds with stat bonuses are present in the game. Gear — and Skills — are a foundational part of our progression system and allow players to really flex their creativity.

You’ll also be able to customize these iconic Super Heroes with classic, fan-favorite, and all-new original outfits inspired by over 80-years of Marvel history. Get a glimpse of some of the hero and alternate outfits with spotlights for Captain America, Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, and Ms. Marvel. Some outfits can be earned and unlocked in-game, and others will be purchasable in the marketplace. Outfits are purely cosmetic, and don’t impact gameplay, meaning you can wear any outfit at any time.
