Everything We Saw During the First 'Marvel’s Avengers' WAR TABLE Livestream

Get ready to Embrace Your Powers on September 4!

Marvel Games, Square Enix, and Crystal Dynamics launched the very first Marvel’s Avengers WAR TABLE stream today. The Marvel’s Avengers WAR TABLE, which will be a monthly offering, gives players an in-depth look at many different aspects of the highly-anticipated game before it launches on September 4.

THE MODOK THREAT

Opening up the Marvel’s Avengers WAR TABLE was the release of the brand-new story trailer narrated by the game’s central villain, Dr. George Tarleton. Tarleton joins the previously announced Taskmaster as another antagonist in the Avengers’ story.

Marvel fans will recognize that Tarleton is none other than MODOK (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing) – the artificially-mutated, super intelligent founder of AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics). The story behind how Tarleton becomes MODOK is central to the game and one we’re eager to hear more about along with who voiced the deadly villain!

MODOK believes in AIM’s mission – fixing the damage the Avengers did, all those years ago on A-Day, by instilling order, ruling by science, and creating boundaries on what he reveals as the true threat to this world – the Inhumans disease. Taking his mission to the extreme, MODOK aims to rid the Earth of superpowers seeing it as a force that cannot be controlled or contained!

Untrusting of Tarleton, a young Inhuman (and Avengers fangirl) Kamala Khan escapes AIM’s clutches to seek out Bruce Banner and uncover who really set up the Avengers that fateful A-Day. Unfortunately for Kamala, there is still discord, differing ideologies, and resentment among her heroes (Iron Man, Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor).

Following the story trailer, the Marvel’s Avengers WAR TABLE gave us further insight to the central story of the game from the perspective of the main antagonist, Tarleton/MODOK. Giving gamers a look back at the comics origin of MODOK and AIM, this is the most technologically-advanced and sophisticated threat the Avengers have ever faced.

ONCE AN AVENGER GAMEPLAY

Crystal Dynamics then revealed new gameplay from Marvel’s Avengers, outside of the events of A-Day, with a look at one of Thor’s Hero Missions—Once An Avenger—watch above.

This gameplay video gives fans a first look at the God of Thunder’s lightning and Mjolnir cyclone, among other heroic moves.

Hero Missions are single-player campaign experiences focusing on specific characters. Once An Avenger is one example of the Hero Missions players will tackle in the game when it arrives on September 4.

The Hero Missions allow Marvel’s Avengers to reveal more of each hero’s story, showcasing a variety of their narrative and backstory. Each hero has 3 iconic heroic moves: Assault, Ultimate, and Support. Learn more about these heroic moves and attacks for the Avengers by rewatching the Marvel’s Avengers WAR TABLE at the top of the article.

ENDLESS CUSTOMIZATION CAPABILITIES

“Everyone plays differently so we have melee, ranged, aerial and ground combat skills to tailor your hero to your playstyle,” states Crystal Dynamics. “As your heroes earn experience, they gain access to new skills. Skill points allow you to unlock new moves, combos, and even new versions of attacks. As you build up your heroes, you begin to see how unlocking and mastering the separate core skills offer a ton of depth and variety on its own for every hero.”

Those Power Sets, along with Gear, Perks, Outfits, and Artifacts, allow players to have a wholly unique playstyle in addition to a wholly unique Earth’s Mightiest Hero. While each Super Hero will play true to their unique power sets, each will have the flexibility to play differently based on the gear you equip them with and the skills you enable, so no two player’s heroes will fight in exactly the same way. Each hero has dynamic combo systems, Heroic moves, an intrinsic ability, and signature move sets to unlock and customize – all of which have been designed from the signature moves from the comics and movies Marvel fans have always wanted to play.

In addition, players will be able to customize each Super Hero with classic, fan-favorite, and all-new original outfits drawing inspiration from over 80 years of Marvel history. Earn these outfits over the course of the story campaign by completing missions, deciphering patterns, or purchasing them in the online marketplace. You’ll also be able to customize each hero’s attitude with emotes.

CO-OP WAR ZONES TRAILER

Team up to defend Earth together. The only way to prevail against AIM is with hope, truth, and embracing your powers.

With War Zone Missions, players can assemble online with up to three other players, or solo with an AI companion team made up of your unlocked and leveled up heroes, to take on AIM and show them what Earth’s Mightiest Heroes can do in the face of evil.

Each mission dynamically scales based on the team size and player level. Hero Missions and War Zones contribute to forward progress in your fight against AIM and rebuilding the resistance. You’ll get missions from non-player characters like JARVIS, Maria Hill, Hank Pym, and more.

As you progress through the campaign, players will also be rebuilding and upgrading the Chimera—the helicarrier, which is your own flying base.

THE RESISTANCE

Now, the Resistance is a group of those who banded together in the five years since A-Day. Working out of the Ant Hill, the Resistance is comprised of Inhumans with powers, former SHIELD agents who refused to pledge allegiance to AIM, and some are everyday people who just want to help.

Work with the Resistance and help their cause in the field by joining Factions. One example of a Faction shown during the WAR TABLE includes Dum Dum Dugan, Maria Hill, and Nick Fury.

Earning Faction Reputation will give you access to new Challenges, new Vendors, and new Powerful Items.

EASTER EGGS

If all of that wasn’t enough, we’ve got a TWIM Bonus where Marvel hosts Ryan ‘Agent M’ Penagos and Lorraine Cink talk to Scot Amos, head of studio for Crystal Dynamics! Listen above to hear how which characters were chosen, the Easter Eggs shown in the WAR TABLE like Thor’s Donald Blake nametag, and what they’re all looking forward to when the game comes out on September 4.

The Marvel’s Avengers WAR TABLE demonstrates how ambitious and massive this game and world is. It’s more than just a global high-stakes race to rebuild the Avengers, save the Inhumans, and uncover AIM’s true plans. This is only the beginning.

The Marvel’s Avengers experience will grow over multiple years with the release of new Super Heroes, regions, and story—all delivered to players at no additional cost once they own the core game.

Marvel’s Avengers will release simultaneously for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC on September 4!
