SDCC 2019: Marvel Games Hall H Panel Showcases How 'Marvel's Iron Man VR' Nails Flying
Developer Camouflaj sheds light on how they made flying in VR with Tony Stark’s signature Repulsors feel intuitive and satisfying!
Earlier today, Marvel Games returned to Hall H during San Diego Comic-Con to reveal new developments and footage for their upcoming games. To get Marvel, Iron Man, and PlayStation fans, as well as VR enthusiasts, hyped on the previously-announced release of Marvel's Iron Man VR, the creatives behind the game peeled back the curtain during the panel.
In the featurette above, developer Camouflaj showed how they tackled one of the greatest development challenges they ever faced — how to nail flying in VR, and not only that, to make the entire experience satisfying.
Ryan Payton, Director at Camouflaj, revealed, "We knew from the very beginning that we had to nail the sensation of flying in VR. It had to be comfortable. It had to feel fast. It had to feel like you were Tony Stark in the suit."

"We knew going in that there's certain iconic things that fans of Iron Man are going to be looking for," added designer Blaine Higdon. "Number One, flight. Two, the immersive Iron Man HUD. And Number Three, various iconic weapons."
To Camouflaj engineer Daniel Johnsen, flying as Iron Man is all about "freedom, speed and power." For this team, the experience had to be different than a flight simulator or cockpit experience.
