Everything We Learned From The Marvel Animation Presents Comic-Con Panel

News about “Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther's Quest,” “Marvel's Spider-Man,” and more!

The Marvel Animation panel at San Diego Comic-Con always brings joy to the fans with its lineup full of your favorite voices, breaking news, and a whole lot of laughs. This year, they talked all things “Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther's Quest,” plus news about “Marvel's Spider-Man,” as well as appearances by a few special guests.

Marvel SVP of Animation and Family Entertainment Cort Lane was joined by SVP of Production and Creative Director Eric Radomski and Senior Director of Development and Production Harrison Wilcox, as well as the voice cast of “Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther's Quest,” James Mathis III (T’Challa/Black Panther) and Daisy Lightfoot (Shuri).

This season of “Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther's Quest,” T’Challa realizes there are some things he must do alone without the aid of the Avengers. Wakanda plays a huge part this season. “This season we get to see a lot of what goes on inside of Wakanda," explained Wilcox. "But we also get to learn about the history of Wakanda, in fact, we dedicate entire episodes to stories about previous generations of Black Panthers.”

The globe-trotting aspect of the show means storylines will have our heroes going all over the world, while the family dynamic of T’Challa and Shuri brings a sibling rivalry full of fun and competition.

“Prior to this season, we saw T’Challa almost exclusively with the Avengers,” said Mathis. “I thought it was great to open T’Challa up, and show more dimensions of him by having his sibling to play off of and interact with.”

Lightfoot agreed, “It’s great because you can see the dynamic between the two of them, having each other’s back throughout anything and every situation that could possibly arise.”

“It’s just a beautiful dynamic because although he is the King, she brings him down to size in some moments,” said Lightfoot. “And she’s able to really carry out her purpose in her life because he’s able to really see the value that she adds to him as a man, as a King, and to the kingdom.”

Familiar foes will make appearances this season, as well as some new unexpected ones. “Some of the villains are ones you would expect from Black Panther, like Killmonger, Klaw, M’Baku, Zanda,” revealed Wilcox. "And some you actually wouldn’t think of as Black Panther villains, like Zemo and Madame Masque, and as you saw in the clip, Tiger Shark.”

In addition to the amazing voice cast, they will be joined by Keston John (Killmonger), Scott Porter (White Wolf), Trevor Duvall (Klaw), Matt Mercer (Tiger Shark), Wynn Everett (Madame Masque) as well as yet to be named characters voiced by none other than Mark Hamill and Stan Lee.

Along with all these announcements Wilcox dropped a bomb during the panel, “Every choice that T’Challa makes this season has lasting consequences.” He continued to gasps from the audience, “Not all characters will make it through to the end of the show. An Avenger dies this season.”

Since this was still an Avengers show, the panel was joined by two surprise guests—Kathreen Khavari (Ms. Marvel) and Robbie Daymond (Spider-Man). Khavari talked about Ms. Marvel’s role in “Marvel Rising” and about what playing Ms. Marvel meant to her. “What I love about Kamala Khan is that she is helping shaped those minds who haven’t been corrupted by propaganda yet,” shared Khavari. She also spoke of her love for playing the fun-loving, kind, super hero who happens to be Muslim.

Daymond talked about this current season of “Marvel's Spider-Man,” as well as revealed that the webslinger will be making a guest appearance on "Black Panther’s Quest."

In addition to “Marvel's Avengers: Black Panther's Quest,” which will debut on September 23 on Disney XD, Lane announced a new series of Marvel Super Heroes Adventures shorts for the preschool set, launching this Fall. The project will have three new cast members, Gwen Stacey/Ghost Spider, Anya as Spider-Girl, Falcon, as well as the return of Mittens the Cat.
