‘The Falcon and The Winter Soldier’ Primer: Where We Last Left Off with Sharon Carter

Let’s catch up with the former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent before the March 19 premiere on Disney+!

Sharon Carter

Sharon Carter will team up with Sam Wilson (Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier), but where has she been since we last saw her? Before Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, let’s take a look back at the former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent’s journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Reacclimating to modern times, Steve Rogers (Captain America) meets Sharon Carter in his apartment building’s hallway. Introducing herself as a nurse, she seems to have a somewhat flirtatious relationship with the Avenger. Unfortunately for Steve, the flirtation was merely a cover. When the Winter Soldier attempts to assassinate S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury in Steve’s apartment, Sharon reveals herself as Agent 13, assigned by Fury to keep an eye on Steve as he adjusts to life as a man out of time.

Even though Steve gives her the cold shoulder when they next meet in passing at the Triskelion, Sharon doesn’t let that sway her loyalty to S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury, or Cap. When Hydra reveals it has been infiltrating the organization, Sharon sides with the “good guys” as Hydra tries to take over the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters.

Following the dismantling of S.H.I.E.L.D., Sharon becomes an agent for the CIA.

Steve’s next meeting with Sharon brings with it yet another secret. After serving as a pallbearer at his first love Peggy Carter’s funeral, Steve watches as Sharon delivers the eulogy, revealing her relationship to the S.H.I.E.L.D. co-founder. Sharon never told anyone who her aunt was because she wanted to earn her place on her own merits. A bond between Sharon and Steve starts to form.

Their reunion is short-lived following the bombing during the Sokovia Accords signing in Vienna. Sharon learns Bucky Barnes’s whereabouts as terrorist Zemo framed the Winter Soldier for the crime. She gives the intel to Cap, who, along with Falcon, goes after his former best friend.

The CIA agent is last seen in Germany, risking her career and livelihood, delivering Steve, Sam, and Bucky their gear confiscated by the government. Sharon and Cap share a parting kiss, to the delight of Sam and Bucky who are watching from nearby.
