Kevin Smith on the Fowl Adventures of ‘Marvel’s Howard the Duck’
‘Clerks’ filmmaker Smith and ‘Aqua Teen’ co-creator David Willis on Howard’s upcoming Hulu animated series!
It was revealed this week that four new animated TV series are in the works from Marvel Television and Hulu, starring some notably oddball Marvel characters, which will lead into all of them teaming up in the special event on Hulu, “Marvel’s The Offenders.”
One of those four series is “Marvel’s Howard the Duck,” featuring the iconic Marvel character who first appeared in 1973’s ADVENTURE INTO FEAR #19, from Steve Gerber and Val Mayerik, before going on to his own memorable comic series.
In “Marvel’s Howard the Duck,” trapped in a world he never made, America’s favorite fighting fowl Howard the Duck hopes to return home with the help of his unstoppable gal pal Beverly before the evil Dr. Bong can turn him the crispiest dish on the menu. Writer/Producer/Director Kevin Smith (“Clerks,” “Comic Book Men”) and Dave Willis, the co-creator of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” and “Squidbillies,” are the writers and Executive Producers for “Marvel’s Howard the Duck,” with Jeph Loeb also serving as Executive Producer.
Reflecting on what it means to tackle the story of Howard the Duck, Smith told Marvel.com, “The times we’re living in deserve an orator who can identify all the quacks in the system - a straight-shooter who won’t leave us holding the bill. Thanks to Marvel & Hulu, I get to do fowl things to one of my all-time favorite comic book characters in animation! Let’s be honest: I’m not talented enough to handle any of the Avengers but Howard is definitely in my wheelhouse! However, the real brains of our operation is a legit cartoon genius: the great Meatwad himself, ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’s’ Dave Willis! So prepare to get Ducked hard!”

Said David Willis, regarding the upcoming Hulu series, “I’m looking forward to working with Kevin on bringing Howard to the flat screen. And I know if I screw this up, I’ll never be able to show my face at Comic-Con ever again. Nerds will hunt me the rest of my days.”
