New Orleans Provides the Ideal Setting for ‘Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger’
Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph took to the WonderCon stage to introduce Tandy & Tyrone to the world!
This weekend, fans got their first glimpse at the latest Marvel television super heroes, as “Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger’s” very own Tyrone and Tandy were introduced to the Marvel fans during their very first WonderCon panel! Led by executive producer and Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb, Olivia Holt (Tandy Bowen/Dagger), Aubrey Joseph (Tyrone Johnson/Cloak), executive producer and showrunner Joe Pokaski, and director Gina Prince-Bythewood took the stage to talk about the new show based on cult Marvel comics.
“From the get-go, Aubrey and I had a really awesome connection,” said Holt. The actors’ great connection on-screen and off, making for a perfect pairing.
This is the first lead role for Joseph, who acknowledged the dynamic with his co-star, “Just to have a friend who was there and to look out for me and make sure I was good and that I felt safe and I felt comfortable.” Looking to Holt, he sweetly declared, “I’m glad I have you as my Dagger. It was meant to be.”
Loeb acknowledged what might be considered a controversial move for some comic fans, moving the show out of New York to New Orleans. Pokaski joked that it was a concern because New York doesn’t have enough super heroes, “Hell’s Kitchen has like six [heroes] and it’s four blocks.” Filming in New Orleans just made sense for the show, “There’s a magic, there’s voodoo—there’s so much history underneath it—and I think it was the perfect place for Tandy and Tyrone to be,” asserted Pokaski, confidently.
Prince-Bythewood echoed that sentiment as she described the city’s authenticity, “New Orleans is such a beautiful city; it’s colorful, it has beauty, and it also has heartbreak,” all of which provides the perfect backdrop for the story.
