Personal Demons Try to Stop FitzSimmons' Reunion in New 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'
Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker hint at tonight's new episode, airing at 8p/7c on ABC!
The moment we've been waiting for all season long!
They’ve fought through space, time and alternate realities to find each other, and now, closer than ever, only their own demons can stop FitzSimmons’ reunion on tonight's brand new episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.!
At the end of last week's episode "The Other Thing," Daisy and Simmons learned that the Chronicoms, a race of ancient synthetic beings, had their planet Chronyca-2 destroyed by a mysterious plague. While Enoch may have been a Chronicom anthropologist saving his friends in S.H.I.E.L.D., there's another type of Chronicoms who aren't as kind — hunters.
Atarah is determined to save their homeworld, and to do so they need the keys to time travel to go back and prevent the destruction of their planet just as S.H.I.E.L.D. had saved their own. In a devastating reveal, Enoch betrayed his best friend Fitz in order to save him, but it puts Simmons in jeopardy, because the only person smart enough to unlock the complexities of time travel is Fitz.
As the promo above reveals, FitzSimmons are reunited. However, they're trapped in a mind prison until they can figure out time travel or how to escape their captors. While Simmons reveal she "doesn't give a damn if they ever escape," personal demons, including one in the form of Leopold Fitz, the HYDRA doctor from the Framework, is ready to disrupt their long awaited reunion. Not only that, it appears we'll get to relive some of their key moments together including the first time they met Phil Coulson upon graduating out of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy!
Speaking to Marvel.com, Elizabeth Henstridge (Jemma Simmons) teased, "We get to explore into their past and we get to go back just a little bit to what Fitz has missed." How will Fitz react learning about the passing of Coulson and his sacrifice last season?
Iain De Caestecker (Leo Fitz) revealed, "That's a difficult thing, ultimately. The last six months that we explored last season never happened for this Fitz in this timeline. He has no recollection of any of it."
"We get to go way back to them being in the Academy," shared Henstridge. "In doing that, we get to discover kind of what they were thinking in those moments and what significant things happened that changed the course of their lives. We just get to explore more into the characters, and they discover stuff about each other that they didn't know which is shocking."
How dire are the stakes, and how dangerous is Atarah? "She's the biggest threat right now," stated Henstridge. "She's in control of everything, and we're in a mind prison. It's sort of Framework-esque, but we are kind of in our own brains. What we do could have severe ramifications in terms of our emotional well-being and also our physical well-being as well. She's got us completely locked down. Our backs are for sure against the wall."
They've fought through everything together, but can Fitz and Simmons' tackle their own personal demons. Find out in a brand new episode tonight!
