Claire Temple is a medical doctor who specializes in treating unusual conditions, particularly of the superhuman persuasion, and becomes allied with many Super Heroes in New York City.
Medical Professional
Claire Temple is born and raised in NYC and grows up to become a medical doctor. She meets Bill Foster in college and they get married but they were so wrapped up in their own careers that they fought most of the time. Their relationship ends in divorce. Claire gets her degree and interns at a large hospital, and starts a clinic with her colleague, Doctor Noah Burstein, on 42nd Street, Storefront Medical.
One day when Claire is on her way home from work, she witnesses Hero for Hire Luke Cage, AKA Power Man, get attacked by hitmen. Though uninjured, she offers her clinic’s facilities to Cage and upon their arrival they find the place trashed and Burstein pinned under a filing cabinet, who happens to be the same doctor that gave Cage his superhuman abilities of unbreakable skin and enhanced strength. Claire suggests they hire Cage for his protective services but Burstein needs to think about it.
Shortly thereafter, Claire is kidnapped by Willis Stryker, AKA Diamondback, whose drug trade suffers from the clinic’s drug program. Claire is freed by Cage and brings the police back to the fight between Cage and Diamondback, but not before Diamondback met his apparent end. Claire corroborates Cage’s story to the police and soon after, they become romantically involved despite Cage’s hero schedule and receiving kisses from some grateful clients.
Expert in Superhuman Medicine
Claire studied medicine in college and graduated with a doctorate. She offers her services as a medical doctor at a clinic that she runs with her colleague Doctor Noah Burstein. Her knowledge and skills range from regular check-ups to being an expert in super-powers and bionic implants.
Fearsome Foes
Billy Bob Rackham frames Claire for the murder of Daily Bugle Reporter Phil Fox but he is captured by Luke Cage, and Claire is exonerated.
While in an intimate relationship with Cage, Claire experiences many threats including those from the criminal Diamondback and the Circus of Crime. Often her brushes with these villains leads her to part ways with Cage.
Superhuman Allies
Luke Cage, Hero for Hire, becomes Claire’s love interest after she tends to his “wounds” sustained in his chosen field of work. Though her relationship with him often puts her in harm’s way and eventually leads them to separate.
As a doctor familiar with superhuman physiology, she also provides medical services to other heroes such as Peter Parker, AKA Spider-Man, Matt Murdock, AKA Daredevil, Danny Rand, AKA Iron Fist, and Miles Morales, AKA Spider-Man.
Claire’s Chronology
When Claire and Cage spend Christmas eve together, they share kisses in the snow and are attacked not once but twice by the criminal known as Marley. Cage subdued him both times.
As Claire and Cage continued dating, she offered her medical skills to him at the clinic and was unaware of his and Dr. Burstein’s past.
When Claire suspects Cage’s former employer Mrs. Jenks and Cage are getting close, she goes to her apartment only to overhear men arguing and that Cage was an escaped convict. She also overheard a gunshot and opened the door to discover a murdered Phil Fox, a reporter for the Daily Bugle who discovered Cage’s secret about how he received his powers. Claire gets framed and arrested for the murder of Fox, and Cage reunited with her in jail despite the police refusing to let them speak. Claire revealed that she knew Cage was a wanted felon and Cage went on to help clear her name. Claire was exonerated thanks to the lawyer Ben Donovan. Donovan got a confession from Mrs. Jenks who saw the murder and named Billy Bob Rackham, Cage’s former prison guard. With the help of Flea, Comanche and Shades, Cage captured Rackham and then reunited with Claire outside of the Hall of Justice.
Claire later tracked Cage down to his ex-girlfriend Reva Connors’ grave and despite him being an escaped convict, she committed to him that they would find a way out together.
When Claire received a distressing letter in the mail from her ex-husband Bill Foster, she hurried off saying goodbye to Dr. Burstein and instructed him to tell Cage not to follow her. Though Cage pursued Claire to California where Claire informed him of her ex-husband and her mixed feelings for him. In confusion, Foster, AKA Goliath, the 15-foot costumed hero, fought Cage thinking his ex-wife in danger. Though their battle was interrupted by Maynard Tiboldt, AKA Ringmaster’s Circus of Crime, who hypnotized and detained them. Claire gets free of their captors and saved Cage first knowing he could handle the situation. She whacked Cage’s head with an electro prod to break his hypnosis and once Goliath was free as well, they fought off the Circus of Crime together and leave them for the police. Understanding her feelings better, she parted from Goliath and returned to NYC with Cage.
Upon their return to NYC, they are attacked by Spear, a former test subject of Doctor Burstein. Claire later argued with Cage about their life with his profession and their relationship began to fall apart. Though they try to work on their relationship, and Claire helped him when he teamed up with Iron Fist, Claire grew tired of the dangers they faced and they separated.
Claire helped Cage’s romantic interest Harmony Young who had survived an attack by Victor Creed, AKA Sabretooth. Her work with Super Heroes continued when she treated Spider-Man after he fought Ted Sallis, AKA Man-Thing, and helped Daredevil when he fought Silas King, AKA Solarr; and even continued to help Cage and his friends, like Rafael Scarfe, despite their separation. When Cage wanted to quit being a Hero for Hire, she convinced him otherwise. She also helped Iron Fist after he sustained an injury fighting Master Khan.
Later, Claire was contacted by Sam Wilson, the new Captain America, after he was turned into a werewolf by Dr. Karl Malus. She determined his condition temporary and discussed the issue facing another one of Malus’ test subjects, JoaquÍn Torres, AKA Falcon, who exhibited vampiric regeneration abilities and she diagnosed him with permanent physiological changes.
In a future timeline, much later and older, Claire worked at her own clinic in Electroville located in the Wastelands. There, she informed Clint Barton, AKA Hawkeye, that his glaucoma was spreading faster causing him to go blind. She advised him to do or see the things he wanted to do while he was still able.
When Miles Morales, AKA Spider-Man, was injured in Latveria, Claire oversaw his recovery until Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, entered the hospital to run his own tests.
