Doug Ramsey was the adoptive son of Destiny and a citizen of Avalon, a haven for people to escape the horror of Apocalypse's America. When Nightcrawler and Mystique came to Avalon to bring Destiny back to America, Ramsey objected but an attack on Avalon by the Shadow King forced the banter to a halt. After Nightcrawler claimed that citizens of Avalon were trying to escape the real world, Ramsey came to his senses and decided to face the real world head on. As the Shadow King was about to kill Destiny with a plasma blast, Ramsey jumped in front of her and sacrificed his life to save her
