Initially abandoning his heritage, Thomas Thunderhead meets the wolf god Owayodata in a dream who gives him the honor of the Red Wolf mantle and power set. Thunderhead dons the costume and with his mystical wolf companion Lobo, becomes a hero.
Inherited Legacy
Born in Phoenix, Arizona in the Cheyenne nation, Thomas Thunderhead is believed to be a descendant of Johnny Wakely, the best-known Red Wolf of the 19th century. In 1973, Thunderhead dreams of Owayodata, the wolf god who had previously chosen each Red Wolf. Owayodata admonishes Thunderhead for abandoning his people’s traditions. Thunderhead wakes up from the confrontation and finds the costume and weapons of the Red Wolf, along with a mystical wolf named Lobo left to him by Owayodata.
Superhuman Senses
Red Wolf is an accomplished tracker, horse rider and master of armed and unarmed combat. Particularly skilled at navigating narrow paths, he has no fear of heights. His senses are exceptionally keen, if not superhumanly so. His chief weapon, the versatile coup stick, can be used as a bo or javelin. He wears a pouch that contains various items, including slippery elm powder, which he can cast to the ground to make people and vehicles lose traction. His wolf companion Lobo has supernatural powers, including teleportation and phasing.
Family Ties, Allies, and Antagonists
While his heritage remains somewhat a mystery, Thunderhead’s alleged ancestors include former Red Wolf heroes such as Wildrun and Johnny Wakely. It’s believed that he also shares common ancestry with William Talltrees, another Red Wolf.
He helps Rhonda Harper with recovering lost family gold, and Jill Tomahawk against art thief King Cycle. He also went up against the former movie star Clayton Bickford who was conning Native Americans so he could use their land and natural resources.
A History of Helping Others
As the new Red Wolf, Thunderhead aided Rhonda Harper in recovering lost gold that Wakely had helped her great-great-grandfather bury. He later helped policewoman Jill Tomahawk against the enigmatic motorcycle gangster, cultist and art thief King Cycle, as well as the former movie star Clayton Bickford, who assaulted both of them after Jill discovered Bickford had been trying to con some Native Americans into selling their land cheaply so he could obtain its hidden oil. Thunderhead is also said to have worked alongside Martial artist Andre LeRoux, AKA Dragonfly, and exorcist Gabriel the Devil-Hunter.
