Annette Bening Talks Supreme Intelligence and Duality in 'Captain Marvel'
Earth's Mightiest Show joins the Oscar-nominated actress on the set of 'Captain Marvel.'
There were several big reveals in Marvel Studios' "Captain Marvel"—the true nature of Goose the Cat, how Nick Fury lost his eye, the power source of Dr. Lawson's lightspeed engine, and the extent of Annette Bening's role within the film.
Earth's Mightiest Show host Lorraine Cink visited the set of "Captain Marvel" last year and had the chance to sit down with the Oscar-nominated actress herself. Watch the full clip above!
When asked about what attracted Bening to "Captain Marvel," Bening, thrilled by the chance of working on a Marvel film, replied, "This is cool. I get to do some really fun stuff and it has proved to be a joy."
One of the big surprises in the film was Bening playing more than just the Supreme Intelligence—the organic, computer construct that leads over the Kree people. Speaking coyly on set, Bening teased, "I get to do more than one thing. There's a duality to what I do so in some ways you think I'm kind of one thing but I'm actually another thing."
"Part of what I do is I get to play the Supreme Intelligence, and within that, there's a lot of creativity," continued Bening. "In our story, the way that the Supreme Intelligence is embodied is new."
In "Captain Marvel," no Kree could ever look upon the Supreme Intelligence in its true form. The Supreme Intelligence appears before you as the person you most admire, which proves to be a source of frustration for Vers, who cannot remember her past.
